DIFFERENT STAGES: THE BEST OF GLENN HUGHES is a compilation album by former Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Trapeze vocalist/ bassist Glenn Hughes. The album was released on 16th July 2002 on SPV records. DIFFERENT STAGES: THE BEST OF GLENN HUGHES is an overview of Glenn Hughes career during the nineties and the start of the 21st century. Hughes re-established his solo career in 1992 after kicking the drug habits that marred his career in the eighties. The two CD compilation features twenty songs from Hughes’ solo career between 1994’s Burning Japan Live and 2001’s Building The Machine. Although the album does not feature any songs from albums with his past bands, it does contain live solo versions of songs Hughes originally recorded with Deep Purple, Trapeze, Black Sabbath and Hughes/Thrall. All the material on the album has been previously released. DIFFERENT STAGES: THE BEST OF GLENN HUGHES is a very successful compilation of songs from his long-standing musical career. His skills as one of the best rock bassists and rock singers come through well in the song selection. In addition to his undisputed "The Voice Of Rock", he shines in some songs with an excellent and sensitive soul voice. From the rock board to the romantic ballad, everything is included. An indispensable disc for fans of sophisticated hard rock.

If you're reading this, you must already know that yes this is Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple Mach III and IV fame, as well as former front man for Trapeze. You was looking for a representative sample from his solo career to decide if there were other disks you wanted to pick up of his, and you came to the right place. It's a blessing or a curse, but six of this 2CD set's twenty tracks are remakes of Deep Purple tunes, so you should be familar with some of the material already. Based on the liner notes, looks like all material come from 7 CDs: Burning Japan Live, Feel, Addiction, The Way It Is, Return Of The Crystal Karma, Live In South America, and Building The Machine. May be you would've liked to have seen a couple Trapeze tunes on this, but it does have a live version of one of the songs he originally recorded with Tony Iommi/Black Sabbath, and material originally recorded with Pat Thrall as well as Marc Bonilla, so this works pretty good as a sampler/introductory package to the music of Hughes. Let's face it this is not a classic. Now if only Glenn would've put on a live version of ''Burn'' showing he can sing without screaming, you should like this. Very similar concept. Glenn Hughes is a God of Rock. This compilation covers 2994 to 2001. Great place to start finding out who he is and what he does. Glenn Hughes is one of the best rock singers of his time.This cd covers his career pretty well.If you are a Glenn Hughes fan you will enjoy this cd.Even though the Trapeze and Deep Purple material is not the original recordings but is mostly live solo recordings it is still a very worthwhile purchase.Excellent musicians always accompany Mr.Hughes in all of his endeavours and this no different.Great songs and a nice booklet with some very interesting musical information inside.Enjoy this compilation it is worth the buy. DIFFERENT STAGES: THE BEST OF GLENN HUGHES is a great CD to add to your collection.
