THE 1982 REUNION CONCERT is a live album from a concert by British blues musician John Mayall. His sidemen are Mick Taylor on guitar, John McVie on bass and Colin Allen on drums. The concert took place at the Wax Museum, Washington DC, on 17 June 1982. It was released in 1994 by Repertoire Records as a CD credited to John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. It's incredible the CD has been hidden for so many years. It is rich and vibrant with outstanding play from all members. Mick Taylor's playing is incredible throughout but on the last track "Have You Heard", he is on another planet!!
If you love the blues, and you like John Mayall, this CD is worth purchasing. You won't be disappointed!!
PERSONNEL: John Mayall – guitar, harmonica, organ, piano, vocals; Mick Taylor – lead guitar; John McVie – bass guitar; Colin Allen – drums.
This is the best recording of Taylor and Mayall together. Taylor's playing has always been fluid and tasty, but he raised his game a step in the early 80s in his playing with Mayall and Dylan, on the right days. Mayall's voice gained some nice seasoning and richness compared to his over-the-top 60s sound. This album cooks. You can complain that some songs have cookie-cutter blues structures and clunky lyrics, but that has always been the case with Mayall. This one is a ripper - crank it up!!!
