Kevin DuBrow - IN FOR THE KILL - CD- 2004- Mascot Records/Irond Ltd.- No UPC (IROND CD-DD153)- 150 grn
IN FOR THE KILL is an album by American rock and roll singer Kevin DuBrow, best known as a member of the group Quiet Riot. A collection of cover versions originally performed by other artists, it was Kevin DuBrow's only solo album before his death in 2007. The tracks are predominantly his version of 1970s rock songs. IN FOR THE KILL was released on 25th May 2004. During his break from Quiet Riot in 2004, Kevin DuBrow remained busy, as he toured alongside such metal titans as Steven Adler and Jani Lane as part of the Bad Boys Of Metal Tour, and also issued his first ever solo release, IN FOR THE KILL. An entirely ''all covers'' affair, which along with unplugged albums, has become the industry standard for veteran rock acts, DuBrow tackles songs from groups that shaped Quiet Riot's style early on. While you're obviously not going to be expecting a vocal tour de force on par with Ronnie James Dio or Geoff Tate here, DuBrow certainly sounds like he's having a good time letting his hair down and revisiting some favorites from his record collection. Included are spirited versions of Deep Purple's "Speed King", Queen's "Modern Times Rock 'N' Roll" and T. Rex's "20th Century Boy". Surprisingly, with an album title like IN FOR THE KILL, you'd expect a cover of the renowned, to metalheads, at least, Budgie tune of the same name, but it's nowhere to be found. And for all the wisenheimers out there - no, there's not a single Slade cover.

The older ones among you might know Kevin DuBrow as the singer of Quiet Riot. A band that released its first album in 1978, on which as with the following album none other than Randy Rhoads played the guitar, had a total of ten studio albums. Quiet Riot dissolved without giving reasons. You understood? Now the best-known extensions or perhaps is presenting his first solo album. The twelve songs on IN FOR THE KILL are exclusively remakes of already well-known songs from the 70s. And even though the cover is "subtly" reminiscent of the Quiet Riot era, there is no Slade cover this time. In terms of sound and craftsmanship, everything is okay, the song selection is quite successful and varied. But nonetheless, you don't really need albums of this kind. Even if buying them isn't a mistake... Man, one of the best voices in metal-US metal-former singer of Quiet Riot - a very important band in the US metal history died shortly after he released this album... Really sadness about this man. That's sad and this album is the legacy of a very underrated great vocalist who didn't managed his life and didn't exorcise his demons. Success blew him away, his personal life turned into a mess, he became an alcoholic, that's a shame. This is a album of great covers-played with passion for music and very inspired choosen. Excellent-thrill guaranteed.
