NIKOLO KOTZEV'S NOSTRADAMUS is a rock opera in three acts written by Nikolo Kotzev about the life and times of Nostradamus. It was released in a 2-CD set on 31st May 2001. It has been performed live for the first time in Sofia, Bulgaria, on 18th and 19th November 2016. The Bulgarian-born virtuoso guitarist, Nikolo Kotzev, whose home has been the Finnish town of Mariehamn since 1989, not only plays the guitar brilliantly, but also possesses considerable talent with the violin. He received private lessons at the tender age of five to play this instrument. As an adolescent, he began taking an interest in rock music and started playing guitar in his first rock band at the age of fifteen. During his years of study, he gathered practical knowledge as a session guitarist in recording studios close to his location of study before he toured Scandinavia and Europe. The next stop in his musical career was the Swedish group Baltimoore, which practically consisted of only Nikolo and singer Bjorn Lodin. Together they made two albums which were released in Europe, Scandinavia and Asia, but the collaboration terminated due to personal and musical differences. Nikolo who is not only an excellent musician but also an extremely talented writer and producer started working on his own songs to begin a solo project, later to be called Brazen Abbot. Three albums have been released so far, with many renowned musicians such as Joe Lynn Turner, Goran Edman and Glenn Hughes, lending their talents to those releases. NIKOLO KOTZEV'S NOSTRADAMUS is a fascinating combination of powerful rock music mixed with orchestral elements involving a full blown symphonic orchestra as well as some of the most respected voices/talents in rock, Alannah Miles, Goran Edman, Yngwie Malmsteen, Glenn Hughes and Joe Lynn Turner. Composed by guitarist Nikolo Kotzev, it's based on the life and visions of the 16th century prophet.

There was a time in the '70s when rock operas were all the rage. Since then they have been pretty scarce, and many times with good reason. This rock opera is quite possibly the most successful attempt at the genre to have ever come around. The awesome results are probably greatly related to the fact that the CD's creator is not only a rock composer, but also an accomplished classical composer. The result is a CD that combines prog metal work, progressive rock, and plenty of classical/operatic leanings to achieve a very potent mix. Kotzev also recruited a considerably impressive cast to fill out the roles in his creation. The work is very powerful, emotional, and inspiring. If you like "concept" or "rock opera" type albums, with classical influences and orchestra, along with a hard rock core, plus wonderful love songs... you must run, not walk, to get this 2CD set. Pick one or more of the following adjectives to describe it: amazing, phenjmenal, unbelievable, unreal. Glenn Hughes and Joe Lynn Turner's voice on this album are simply incredible. All of the singing on this is terrific. The best duets you ever heard. This album definitely falls in the "Must Own CD's" category. This will be stuck in your disc player for a long time to come.
