A comprehensive collection of spoken words from the late Thin Lizzy leader himself, his bandmates, his friends and his mother Philomena, who has helped in the initial production of this project. This album is produced by Irish writer/journalist John Meaney and Chris Hewitt of OZIT/MORPHEUS RECORDS. Spoken word mastering by Karl 'Fog' at OZIT/MORPHEUS RECORDS. Design/artwork by Steve Jacuzzi, paintings by Chris Daniel. Total of 16 tracks including 8 tracks of Thin Lizzy music performed by Dizzy Lizzy, the world's closest tribute to Thin Lizzy.
Part of the ULTIMATE ROCK SPOKEN MOMENTS series put out by Ozit/Morpheus Records, ''I Am Just A Cowboy'' places Irish bard and Thin Lizzy bandleader Phil Lynott in the company of Jim Morrison, the Beatles, and Sid Vicious. Certainly of curiosity to hardcore fans who might be interested in hearing Lynott tell of Thin Lizzy's beginnings, including why they named themselves after a Beano comic book character, Tin Lizzie, the CD is a slipshod release that relies more on myth than fact. Much of the CD features sentimental interviews with Philomena Lynott, Phil's mother, who tells of their close and loving relationship, and while it all rings true, she never once mentions that Phil was raised by his grandmother in Dublin while she ran a hotel in Manchester, fleeing the stigma that Irish Catholic society placed on an unwed mother of a half-black child (Lynott's father was Brazilian). Spoken word segments are interspersed with Thin Lizzy hits, eight of the 16 tracks, all played by "the world's closest Thin Lizzy tribute band," Dizzy Lizzy, a fact that's almost hidden on the back cover - sure, they've got the twin-guitar sound and thick Lynott-esque vocal delivery, but you can't help feeling ripped off. A good idea in theory, the album is second-rate and of interest only to fanatical Lynott disciples.
