The GOLD compilation is a repackaging of the two 1997 Rush compilation albums Retrospective I and Retrospective II was released in April 25, 2006. Including their first official radio staple ''Working Man'' through their last recordings on Mercury Records. Spanning thirteen years both old and new fans will hear many favorites, including their biggest hits ''Tom Sawyer'' and ''New World Man''. Respectful of Retrospective 1 and Retrospective 2, this collection ads the track ''Working Man'' to those classic playlists. Features every Rush hit, radio staple and classic track. Full participation by the band. Not as expansive as the impressive Chronicles, this edition of the excellent GOLD series covers many of the greatest hits from one of Canada's top exports and finest contributors to the rock & roll tapestry. Largely covering Rush during the '70s and early '80s, GOLD's track sequencing is wildly erratic with no real logic in place concerning how the songs blend into one another. But all of the hits are here, from the earliest - "Working Man" and "Free Will" - all the way up to the later MTV favorites. This covers pretty much all that a casual fan will ever need. Diehards will most likely own all of these songs thanks to Chronicles, but those who slept on that anthology would be well served in picking this up to fill holes in their collection.

During their lengthy career, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil "The Professor" Peart welded precision musicianship and captivating song ideas. Rush's musical style shifted often, with a prog-lean serving as the common denominator once Peart joined the ranks in the wake of the group's hard hitting debut LP. Innovative to the end, the highly influential Rush never let time stand still... The early years were a steady diet of writing, recording and touring for the Canadian power trio. With the group's fan base expanding exponentially as the turbulent '70s progressed, Rush strengthened their hold in the hard rock ranks as the '80s took over. Unlike many group's that were unable to carry the momentum beyond the '70s, Rush rolled into early 1980 with the release of Permanent Waves and followed up the success of the break-through seventh studio album with the equally-impressive Moving Pictures in '81. The double disc GOLD retrospective, issued by Mercury Records in 2006, showcases twenty-nine Rush tracks from the group's glory years, with the accessible "The Spirit Of Radio" aptly leading the charge on the first CD. Disc one packs on the prime movers, with the likes of "Freewill", the ambitious "Xanadu", the unrelenting "Bastille Day", the battle-tested "By-Tor And The Snow Dog", the raging "Anthem", the call-to-philosophers-and-plowmen "Closer To The Heart", the lengthy "La Villa Strangiato", "Fly By Night", and the hammering "Working Man", garnering the spotlight. The second disc takes flight with tracks from 1982's Signals album and beyond, with the exception of the inclusion of three tracks, the crusing "Red Barchetta", "Limelight" and the mean-mean-pride of "Tom Sawyer", each presented from the legendary Moving Pictures LP. Featuring many of Rush's meticulously composed and arranged classics, the GOLD collection serves as a reminder of the greatness of the Great White North group... and a proper starting point for the uninitiated.
