Wow! The U.K. group known as Mungo Jerry (lead vocalist and guitarist and washboard player Ray Dorset, pianist/vocalist Colin Earl, guitarist and banjo player Paul King, and drummer Mike Cole) had several other hits besides In The Summertime in the U.K. and other parts of the world. In North America, however, they were One-Hit Wonders in every sense of the term as the song, rendered in their chosen style which was to fuse elements of skiffle, jug band, blues and rock 'n' roll - in this case into an infectious and chugging beat, would be their only one of four U.S. releases to chart. This is no ordinary collection of original artist remakes. You really enjoy this CD and you could not have not been more satisfied with an album purchase. The performance of IN THE SUMMERTIME sounds like somebody transported 2007 recording gear back to the early 1970s. The performance was spot on! Now, for the rest of the CD. What a pleasant surprise it was. Very much in the tradition of excellent European performers being inspired by rockers in the USA. The groove is quite diverse. Imagine Golden Earring meets Canned Heat meets the Cars meets Meatloaf. You hear those influences and more on this album. Overall, it's a great listen while driving down the highway. Mungo Jerry was more popular in Europe than in the U.S. and they scored several hits after "In The Summertime". The music itself is a mixture of Skiffle, Boogie and Glamrock. Party music in the best sense. The choice of tracks is also great - not only the well known songs but some lost gems. The MUNGO JERRY FEVER! was one of the biggest pop phenomena after The Beatles.
