Bachman-Turner Overdrive- GOLD- 2CD- 2005- The Island Def Jam Music Group- 602498856406- 500 grn
GOLD is a compilation album by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. It was released in October 11, 2005 by Mercury Records. Bachman-Turner Overdrive's thumping, guitar-driven anthems epitomize 1970s arena-rock, and few were the FM-radio fans who grew up in that decade (or the '80s for that matter) without hearing "Takin' Care Of Business" and "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" at least a thousand times. Mercury's two-disc GOLD collection brings together the best of the band's output between 1973 and 1979. Arranged chronologically, GOLD provides a career overview of the hard-rocking Vancouver quartet, including both well-known singles and highlights from the studio albums. Well packaged and annotated, GOLD is the definitive BTO set and the perfect introduction to this classic-rock standby. The expansive GOLD series that Universal has been reissuing keeps on trucking along, this time making a pit stop in the Great White North to celebrate Canada's finest rock exports. While there have been dozens of greatest-hits compilations featuring Bachman-Turner Overdrive, they have all had minor flaws, glaring omissions, or even the most heinous of crimes: the re-recording of classics. GOLD remedies that by featuring 35 tracks of hard-rocking goodness spanning the prime years of the band's career. All of the recognizable radio hits are nestled in between lesser-known album rock tracks, digitally remastered and carefully packaged with extensive liner notes detailing the band's every moment of glory. It has everything the diehard could want on two discs, and while its length may be overwhelming for listeners just being introduced to the band, it is most likely all the BTO they would ever need in their collections.

Let it roll... Puttin' the hammer fuckin' down, BTO stormed through the turbulent '70s with aggression. BTO's GOLD is a comprehensive two compact disc compilation consisting of thirty-five over-the-road tracks, that serves-up virtually everything you ever needed from the gear-jamming Canadian quartet. The GOLD collection includes material pulled from the band's early recordings, and closes with a few cuts from the late '70s when guitarist Randy Bachman was no longer along for the four-wheel drive. The anthology also features a 20 page book loaded down with info about the lumbering group, starting with their humble beginning, which was initiated when Bachman departed the Guess Who. BTO weren't stylish (just check out the stage threads the burly boys wore), they were far from original in their heavy blooze/rock approach, and the critics absolutely detested the bass heavy band from the Great White North. The primal group simply took care of biz, churnin' out ear splitting, power chord rockers for the dazed 'n' confused high school crowd. Just check-out the roundhouse riffin' "Don't Get Yourself In Trouble" for a Grade-A example of what BTO was all about. During Bachman-Turner Overdrive's prime time cruise from 1973 through '75, the quartet commanded from the top of the charts, and before the masses on stages all across North America. The uptight musical press cringed as the not fragile mayhem went down, while the long hair, denim clad, beer swillin' youth demanded more from the free wheelin' Canadians. KNOCK IT BACK!
