2001 compilation of the blues legend's early Detroit recordings for the Beat Goes On Records label. 14 tracks from the best of Hooker's first ever studio sessions, featuring rare recordings & alternative versions of his legendary hits. This album initially came about because of Canned Heat, who commissioned the release of many Hooker out-takes after recording the album Hooker 'N' Heat with him in 1970. This was the first such release, with the 3LP box set John Lee Hooker's Detroit following two years later. The entire contents of both these collections can currently be found - if you want all the Hooker you can get - on the 3CD set Alternative Boogie: Early Studio Recordings, 1948-1952.

Formed by Archie Lee Hooker, the nephew of John Lee Hooker, Archie and his leading hand-picked team are highly recognised for creating compelling, soul-enriching productions that leave their audiences wanting more. Though Archie left for France in 2011 to join Carl Wyatt & The Delta Voodoo Kings to tour Europe, he eventually chose to seek the right musicians to have on his side. He wanted a team that resembled family, chemistry, and a bond unlike any other. Once he found them, Archie founded the Archie Lee Hooker & The Coast to Coast Blues Band, which was specially named after the late John Lee’s Coast to Coast Blues Band. This is a great collection of original recordings from the 1948/1952 period. The guys from Canned Heat wrote the liner notes and produced this re-issue of some of John Lee Hookers early solo recordings. If you like early Hooker you'll like these songs. Pretty clean sound too for such early stuff. Highly recommended.
