Hooker 'N Heat what's to say? Brilliant! This CD is a great compilation of John Lee Hooker and Canned Heat. The songs of John Lee Hooker are profiled by "Burning Hell" and "The World Today" extend into the classics of "Whiskey And Wimmen" and "Lets Make It" by the mixture of Canned Heat and John Lee Hooker. Alan Wilson's harmonica is highlighted here, and it 's a great highlight, he is after all a best of harp players. This offers up a great offering of the beat of John Lee Hooker and Canned Heat. "Just You And Me" and "Lets Make It" offer JL Hooker's great songs. Overall this CD offers up a great picture of what boogie is all about.

The ten songs on Best of Hooker 'N Heat were originally released as part of a 1971 album. This reissue, despite the lack of historical liner notes, isn't exactly short of value, clocking in at 56 minutes. Canned Heat gets top billing, but really it's John Lee Hooker's show, as he sings all the tracks and takes all the songwriting credits for the material, which includes remakes of classics like "Dimples," "Boogie Chillen," "Burning Hell," and "Bottle Up And Go." With Hooker fronting a blues-rock-boogie group, this doesn't offer the optimum circumstances to hear the man. But it's not bad, either, Canned Heat playing with spirit and relative economy, although the 11-minute "Boogie Chillen" is excessive.
