Originally released on 11th September 2006 on CD, this album was put together from multi-track tapes that had been returned to Bolan's son Rolan. Recorded at AIR Studios Oxford Street location, these tapes had been kept by the studio receptionist inher broom cupboard in Weston-Super-Mare, southwest England in the intervening years. These tapes make up the bulk of the final recorded studio work from the final twelve months of Marc Bolan's life. With the addition of four tracks recorded at Decibel Studios in Stamford Hill in April 1977, the picture is almostcomplete and we can enjoy and understand more fully in context the direction in which Marc Bolan's music may have been heading as he approached his thirties. Seven of the twelve songs on this were not released during Bolan's lifetime. THE FINAL CUTS is a fifteen-track CD album, recorded between October 1976 & April 1977. It's contains Marc Bolan's final recordings. The bulk of the material was recorded in London and was handed over to Rolan Bolan in 2002 by a former employee who had taken the tapes with her when the studio closed in 1989. This records featuring both Bolan & Gloria, they give a glimpse of the musical direction he was heading in. Includes a twelve-page picture booklet with track-by-trackliner notes from Martin Barden, who interviewed Gloria Jones in 2006 for this release. These THE FINAL CUTS are an odds-and-sods collection of music Marc Bolan had been working on before he was killed in 1977. It's in various stages of completionSome of the music here appears on other recordings of late cuts. Some are reworkings of tunes or alternate takes of tracks that appeared on Futuristic Dragon or Dandy In The Underworld, some never appeared at all. You have to be a hardcore Marc Bolan & T. Rex fan to want this music. There is a weird version of "To Know You Is To Love You" with a vocal by Gloria Jones, the disco star who was Bolan's wife, and the rest has either new tags, or more or less guitars, or reworked melodies. You get the picture. Usually Edsel is spot-on, but this is dodgy. About the only thing you can really compliment the compilation producers for is good-quality sound, it's top-notch for what it is. Features his final single ''Celebrate Summer'' as well as ''Mellow Love'', ''Write Me A Song'', ''Hot George'', ''Shy Boy'' and more. A fantastic album, with some excellent insights into where Marc was taking the T.Rex sound. Some of these tracks appeared on an album Billy Super Duper, if with a little more production. There have also been releases of some of these songs on the Unchained Series. It's one marvellous collection and just goes to show how well Marc had turned the corner, after a couple of years of being so prematurely written off. A must for all fans of Marc and his music and one in the eye for those cynical fools, who seemes to revel in slating Marc Bolan and underplaying his influence on those bands that followed on. How wrong they are. Fascinating, moving, rocking, punchy, pouting, innovating.
