LIVE 1977 / IN CONVERSATION is a two CD set, released 30 years after the death of this British Rock legend, features a plethora of rarities. Disc One contains performances from two fantastic shows recorded during T. Rex's very last tour in 1977: The Rainbow on 18th March, and the Portsmouth Locarno on 20th March - Marc Bolan's last ever concert in the UK. The Damned were the support band on the tour, and they join Bolan for the 11 minute encore of 'Get It On'. Disc Two contains a previously unreleased half hour interview conducted by Steve Wright with Marc and Gloria Jones on Reading's Radio 210, featuring several acoustic performances unheard since the original broadcast. This release has been made possible by the discovery of a fan's reel-to-reel tape of the interview. LIVE 1977 / IN CONVERSATION was released on 29th September 2007 via Demon Music Group and Edsel Records. Even with all the repackagings and reissues of the Marc Bolan & T. Rex catalog, authorized live albums were a rarity in the glam rocker's canon. LIVE 1977 attempts to correct this oversight by offering the first official high-quality T. Rex album. LIVE 1977 is culled from two shows form T. Rex's final tour in 1977. By this point, Bolan was no longer revered as a pop god and he was feebly trying to come to terms with punk and disco. Much of his disco influences are stripped out on LIVE 1977 and the punk stuff. The glam numbers sound fine, but not particularly inspired and they certainly offer no revelations. In other words, it's one for the fans, who, ironically, will be more excited by the bonus disc IN CONVERSATION that was included in this re-release. It's sexy, sleazy and fun, which makes it all the more puzzling why this was the added attraction, not the main feature. Marc Bolan fans will love this release. At the time Marc did this concert back in 1977 months before his untimely passing away, critics noted that he had gone from playing the Wembly arena's 20,000 seat stadium to a 3,000 seat venue. The real issue was that after years of drug abuse and arguably a loss of his creative mojo, Marc Bolan was back in his groove. He had the zeal and energy of his glory days with a creative streak that was every bit as sharp as it had been back in 1971-72. The sound quality is very good giving true fans a taste of what it might have been like to witness a true rock and roll icon. Marc kicks off the concert profusely thanking his fans for the sellout audience noting that critics had warned him only months before that he would not be able to fill the venue. Also here IN CONVERSATION, is not only rare hardly heard interview with Marc by Steve Wright on Reading radio which is as clear as day it was recorded but a well worth small selection of songs not heard anywhere else. It has Marc singing just him, his acoustic guitar & Gloria on backing live in studio & the sound is fantastic. They sing a lovely version of ''Dreamy Lady'' and a rather clever slightly re-written ''Teenager In Love'', and the only acoustic version of ''New York City'' mixed in a medley with ''Hot Love'' and ''Get It On''. So a true fan will buy this for the second disc alone. As for the interview Marc seems happy & enjoying himself not the Marc you've heard in the past. He seemed a guy who knew where he was going and what he wanted.
