Winner of the Nobel Prize For Literature in 2016, Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter and writer. Heir to the folk cadences of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, originally fused − in his music − with the "electric" sounds of new rock, he was one of the most evocative, and most "consumed" myths of the youth counterculture of the Sixties. In his lyrics, songs or ballads, blues or poems, the echoes of the populist tradition and black speech combine with the experiments of beat poetry, the themes of wandering in great spaces − in the footsteps of the «hoboes» − with those of the psychedelic and mystical exploration of the «self». Dylan was the interpreter of the unanswered restlessness, of the always blocked aspiration for change, which characterized the itinerary of entire American generations from "protest" to subjective withdrawal. All songwriters are links in a chain, yet in this evolutionary arc there are very few artists who have left an influence as profound as Bob Dylan. It is difficult to imagine the art of writing songs as we know it regardless of him. Someone else would have done it, may be. But in truth Bob Dylan was the instigator, the one who knew that the songs could do more, that they could take on a more important task. He knew that the song form could contain a lyrical richness and meaning that went beyond the reach of pop ditties, that songs could have the same beauty, the same strength as the greatest poetry, and that for the fact that they were written with their own rhythm and rhyme could speak to our souls. The attention to language that has characterized him throughout his career made him an ideal candidate for the Nobel Prize For Literature. Poetic texts that do not lose their value if read independently: Byron, Keats and Ginsberg, Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams mixed, digested, reworked in an original form for which only Bob Dylan can be said. The Nobel Prize was awarded to him in 2016 for having "created a new poetic expression within the tradition of the great American song". He had already previously won the Pulitzer Prize (the most prestigious honor in literature, journalism and musical compositions that one can receive in the U.S.A.), for "The important impact he had on American music and culture thanks to lyrics and music of a high poetic profile", the Oscar for best original song in 2001 for ''Things Have Changed'' and the Grammy Award For Lifetime Achievement in 1991. Bob Dylan is probably the most influential singer-songwriter ever and one of the most gifted musicians of the 20th century. The song "Man Of Constant Sorrow" became known to everyone because of the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? starring George Clooney. This CD, that released on 15th April 2016, delivers his most beautiful songs from his younger years, including classics like "House Of The Risin' Sun", "Baby, Let Me Follow You Down", "You're No Good" and just as already mentioned "Man Of Constant Sorrow". It's great.
