DECADES LIVE… ’61 TO ’94 is exhilarating 114-track collection of live recordings from sixteen different locations, spanning 1961 to 1994. Since coming to prominence in 1962, Bob Dylan has never ceased to create and innovate, his remarkable songwriting being matched by the quality and quantity of his live performances. This 8-disc set gathers several historically important sets, all originally recorded for broadcast on various different stations. They find him playing intimately and in front of huge crowds, with material ranging from protest folk to rock’n’roll. It's exhilarating live performances across four decades of Bob Dylan masterpieces. This is a fantastic set. This has the best of tracks, all in one place. The performances are terrific and the sound quality is very good - as good as can be expected, and better in many cases. We're extremely lucky to have these recordings. It is Dylan performing live at his very best - which is saying something. Apart from this, the box set is beautifully packaged, with a great photo on the sleeve of each CD. It really is deluxe. With the untimely death of Tom Petty this set is also a lasting reminder of the collaboration between Tom and Bob.

This recordings is obviously aimed at Dylan fans who have already bought all the official albums, probably including the bootleg series, and still want more. The first 2CDs are broadcasts from 1961-63 and given the age are very good. The third CD is practically the same content and standard as the Shelter From Hard Rain album. It is ragged and rough in places but turn it up loud and it's glorious. CD4 is fourteen tracks from DYLAN & PETTY in Sydney and it's an enjoyable listen. CDs 5&6 are Dylan and Petty in Buffalo USA. CD7 are broadcasts from 1994 and again an enjoyable listen. Most of CD8 is Bob talk on a radio show in 1963 but there are five tracks, two from Johnny Cash Show in '69 and three from John Hammond Show in '75, which are a perfectly decent standard. Well worth the money. Buy it, like it and treasure it.
