Although the material was recorded in 2003, the album was not released to the general public until 2006 (although it was available exclusively through Sony Music's online store in 2004). Whenever Jeff Beck performs in a rare intimate concert setting, it's always an event. For this special occasion at the B.B. King Blues Club in New York City, the audience was treated the reunion of the Guitar Shop power trio of Jeff Beck (guitars), Terry Bozzio (drums) and Tony Hymas (keys). This brilliant guitar shredder truly threw down some of his classiest and hard driving repertoire ever as it was captured originally for a rare online release in 2003. Recorded live at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City on September 10, 2003, this stirring set features guitarist Jeff Beck, backed by drummer Terry Bozzio and keyboardist Tony Hymas, spinning out solid and often hauntingly beautiful instrumental versions of an eclectic array of songs, including wonderful takes on Charles Mingus' "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," the Beatles' "A Day In The Life," and the Impressions' "People Get Ready," among other gems. While many guitarists from the 1960's have either passed away (Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Frank Zappa), slipped into semi-retirement (Jimmy Page), or retreated to the past by playing the blues (Eric Clapton), Jeff Beck continues to push forward with very little acknowledgment of his previous achievements. After taking a six year hiatus between studio albums in the 1990's, Beck roared back with three outstanding techno/guitar rave up albums: 1999's Who Else?, 2000's You Had It Coming and 2003's Jeff. These three albums show Beck dealing easily with today's music scene while showing the younger generation what a truly gifted musician can do with an electric guitar. To cap off this trilogy of albums, Sony Music has made available LIVE AT B.B.KING BLUES CLUB. This official bootleg can only be ordered through www.jeffbeck.com. For $10 you get 16 tracks full of Beck with Tony Hymas on keyboard and Terry Bozzio on drums raising the roof off of B.B.'s club with a set heavy on recent material like "Psycho Sam", the dripping "Brush With The Blues", "Roy's Toy" and "Angel (Footsteps)" among others. There are a few nods to the past: Blow By Blow's "Scatterbrain", taken at an extreme tempo, "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" from Wired, "Big Block" from Guitar Shop and an instrumental version of the Curtis Mayfield classic "People Get Ready" that Beck originally recorded for 1985's Flash album, but, by and large, the disc is about NOW.
