Rossington Collins Band- LIVE IN ATLANTA 1980- 2CD- 2016- Air Cuts Production- 5292317803114- 500 grn
The Rossington Collins Band was a southern rock band founded in 1979 by guitarists Allen Collins and Gary Rossington following the 1977 plane crash which killed three members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, of which both had been members. The band included two other surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Billy Powell and Leon Wilkeson. The band wished to develop their own sound rather than being regarded as a reformed Lynyrd Skynyrd, and toward that objective they hired a female lead vocalist, Dale Krantz, who later married Rossington. The Jacksonville-based band released two albums before disbanding in 1982. Their biggest hit, “Don’t Misunderstand Me,” charted in late 1980.” Two years after the tragic aviation accident that claimed the lives of several of their Lynyrd Skynyrd bandmates, Gary Rossington and Allen Collins announced the formation of The Rossington-Collins Band. In the fall of 1980 they toured to support their first album, Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere, showcasing a pop-flavoured sound that still retained the Southern Rock essence of their predecessor. This superb set was broadcast on WNEW-FM December 31st, and includes an epic instrumental rendition of Free Bird.
