OFFICIAL BOOTLEG VOLUME THREE: LIVE IN KAWASAKI JAPAN 2010 was recorded in Club Citta, Kawasaki, Japan in 2010 by British rock band Uriah Heep and released on 21st March 2011 by Edel Germany GmbH. Eternally on tour, British prog rock legends Uriah Heep are a superb and tight live band, and this bootleg series instalment proves that well. Since 2000 Uriah Heep released lots of live albums and it's not so easy to navigate in this ''sea of light''. But never say never - here comes another live record with Demons And Wizards album played in its entirety and in original running order. How could you resist? Worth every penny, hryvnia, cent, rouble or whatever you have in your pocket. Great concert, great sound, good set of old and new songs. Uriah Heep were always a strong live band, playing every gig like there is no tomorrow. But this Japanese concert is very special. Add nice slide guitar work of Mickey Moody in some songs and Phil Lanzon's grand piano in ''Rain'' to the power of the band and you'll get the picture. LIVE IN KAWASAKI is the record the band can be proud of. This might very well be the best of all six Official Bootlegs released on earMUSIC, and one of the better choices for you.
PERSONNEL: Mick Box - guitars, vocals; Trevor Bolder - bass, vocals; Phil Lanzon - keyboards, vocals; Bernie Shaw - lead vocals; Russell Gilbrook - drums, vocals; Special guest: Mickey Moody - slide guitar.
Rock fans, especially lovers of classic 70s hard rock, don't need to be introduced to Uriah Heep, who named themselves after a character from the novel David Copperfield by Charles Dickens, as they belong together with such illustrious colleagues like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath were the founding fathers of this pioneering genre. The has been on the road since 1969, now in the 42nd year of its existence, and has released what feels like its 25th live disc with the current double CD LIVE IN KAWASAKI JAPAN 2010. But Uriah Heep always knows how to make all live releases exciting again through clever changes to the set list and the inclusion of a few surprises. You shouldn't be confused by the name OFFICIAL BOOTLEG, the sound is consistently good and comes across as powerful. The surprise moment and also the highlight of the concert is clearly the complete performance of the 1972 classic album Demons And Wizards, one of the band's top five releases. It goes way back into the past and to times when patchouli really still smelled like patchouli... This is also where ''special guest'' Mickey Moody appears on slide guitar for the first time. As an encore, the acoustic has to be played again and the inevitable campfire sing-a-long "Lady In Black" is intoned, with Trevor Bolder also throwing in a brilliant bass solo. The concert ends pompously with the outro "Pomp And Circumstance" from the third act of Shakespeare's Othello, composed by Edward Elgar. This will be a concert entirely to yuor liking.
P.S. A small, true incident: In 1969, Heep's predecessor band Spice had their practice room, like several other bands, in London's Hanwell Community Center. Heavy Hammond organ sounds and loud, cutting guitar riffs boomed from the next room... And Spice, aka Uriah Heep, was inspired by these unfamiliar sounds. The song "Gypsy" was written in the Hanwell Community Center. The band next door was none other than Deep Purple, who were currently writing their songs for the mega album In Rock...
If you're a fan at all of Uriah Heep, or classic rock, or great live performances, get this album. Highly recommended.
