OFFICIAL BOOTLEG: LIVE AT SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL 2009 was recorded at Sweden Rock Festival in 2009 by British rock band Uriah Heep and released on 29th January 2010 by Edel Germany GmbH. OFFICIAL BOOTLEG: LIVE AT SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL 2009 is the audio companion to the fantastic DVD available with the Deluxe Special Edition of the Heep's studio album, Celebration: Forty Years Of Rock released on 6th October 2009. This official live bootleg is the first of a series of live albums that earMUSIC and Uriah Heep was released during 2010 as limited editions. It's Heep's homage to the most dedicated fans in the world. Uriah Heep was a pleasure to headline the prestigious Sweden Rock Festival on the 3rd of June 2009, and this is an official bootleg CD, documenting some of that evenings performance. While they performed their newest studio release Wake The Sleeper in it's entirety that night, only two cuts made it on this disc, "Ghost Of The Ocean" and "Angels Walk With You". Bernie Shaw's vocals are superb throughout and he has taken many of the vintage tunes that preceded his time with the band and put his own touch on them. The band is in fine form this night and all of them give outstanding performances with the keyboard work of Phil Lanzon and stick work of Russell Gilbrook really standing out. Add some very heady guitar solos by Mick Box to the mix and this is a very enjoyable but predictable disc.

The band was formed the year that Richard Nixon took office. Here 40 years later during the Obama reign they are still going strong. Sure the line-up has seen some major changes and the only surviving member of that original group is the legendary Mick Box on guitar, but you have to give them credit as Uriah Heep still chugs along and is constantly touring Europe and releasing new material. Uriah Heep just refuses to die. How many times they have been written off, but to come back time and time again. The recent studio album, Wake The Sleeper, showed they still have gas in tank. That album was their strongest since the mid 1970's. This show was taken from the tour to promote the album and proves to be quite the energetic performance in front of an appreciative crowd. Mick Box wears out a couple of wah wah pedals, Phil Lanzon destroys an organ or two and Russel Gilbrook shows he is the right man to replace Lee Kerslake in Heep's engine room. Really never should doubt the power of Heep in a live setting, as they turn what appears initially to be a simple lunch into a sumptuous banquet. They cage your attention from the opening moments of "Sunrise" clear through to the closing bell of "Lady In Black", in which time they administer an audial ass kicking of the highest calibre. It's simply one of the best live bands active today showing the audience and you how it's done. A true Heepster is going to have to have this disc just for the sake of having it. Casual fans will probably not get enough from the two new songs to make this album a must have. Maybe we will get the rest of the concert at some future point but for now, this is one for the die hard fans only. It's great that the band is still alive and kickin' after almost forty years of their existence.
