SOUTHERN FRIED ROCK BOOGIE is a radio recording of the band's concert on April 27, 1975 at The Winterland in San Francisco, which took place as part of the tour for the then current album "Nuthin' Fancy". The cast is the groundbreaking of LYNYRD SKYNYRD and has composed the standards that are still essential today, many of which are offered here, not just 'Sweet Home Alabama' in what is often quite compact six minutes. 'Freebird' at the end, however, rolls LYNYRD SKYNYRD out to 13 minutes, which links them to the opening 'Whiskey rock-a-roller', which clocks in at just under nine minutes. The band is technically in a good mood and extremely heavy at the time of recording, which also cemented a large part of their reputation over the years. BLACKFOOT banged harder at times, but there was mass potential and anthemic material in abundance here. You don't hear much from the practically sold-out house, also because the sound quality, as said - and to put it euphemistically - is "historic". If that doesn't bother you, you can get involved in this obvious waste of money. This show was recorded during the band's tour promoting their 1975 album, Nuthin' Fancy, and it features Lynyrd Skynyrd at the top of their game. It was also one of the last shows featuring their original three-guitar lineup, as Ed King left the band midway through the tour. Skynyrd confidently played its brand of riff-driving Southern fried rock boogie to near capacity crowds on this entire '75 tour.
CONCLUSION: An old concert by LYNYRD SKYNYRD, processed ugly. For die-hard fans.
