In the late '60s Bob Brunning found himself in the middle of the British Blues Boom, with Bass Guitar in hand and an address book of like minded souls. The next couple of years saw him play with first Fleetwood Mac (on their debut LP) then Savoy Brown, and release five LPs of his own John Mayall-like collective. Compiled here is the cream of those LPs, whose constants were Brunning and pianist Bob Hall. Blended in at various times were other key British Blues Boom protagonists from that address book, including alumni such as Dave Kelly, Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, Jo-Ann Kelly. The full story of this exciting scene within the British Blues Boom is told with Bob's reminiscences and stories and Bob continues to run a monthly Blues Club today in South London. THE BEST OF BRUNNING SUNFLOWER BLUES BAND is enjoyable British Blues. If you like early Savoy Brown, John Mayall, Fleetwood Mac, all British Blues pioneers, Brunning Sunflower Blues Band is a more than respectful contributor to the genre. The two tracks with Peter Green are a nice bonus but are also available elsewhere. This is straight ahead Blues that you would expect from leader Bob Brunning who played in the blues versions of Fleetwood Mac and Savoy Brown. It is solid blues from an overlooked but vital link to the early British Blues scene. Good music, good blues, good album.
