1996 European THE BEST OF collection of tracks from their late sixties blues based era featuring Peter Green & Danny Kirwan. This is another budget compilation of the early Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer, a blues band largely overlooked in the US and basically a different animal than the lineup with the ladies. The original version of "Black Magic Woman" (covered by Santana of course) and the UK #1 "Albatross" (first recording with Danny Kirwan) are here. "Long Grey Mare" and "Dr Brown" are other highlights of this period. The fact that founding rhythm section Mick Fleetwood and John McVie who are not singer-songwriters have been in every lineup since late 1967 make the band name seem more like a brand than a band as someone may not think it's the same Fleetwood Mac. The is a well selected set of tracks form the bands early songs and if you like the blues you should love this CD. Great songs from the early years of a great band with the great Peter Green leading recommended.
