DINKY DAWSON's LIVE ARCHIVE THE DINKY WHO? Series.
SHRINE '69 is a live album by British blues rock band Fleetwood Mac, recorded on 25 January 1969, and finally released in 1999. Recorded at a concert in Los Angeles, this album includes versions of the band's recent hits, "Albatross" and "Need Your Love So Bad", as well as more unusual songs like "Before the Beginning" and "Lemon Squeezer".
PERSONNEL: Peter Green – guitar, vocals; Jeremy Spencer – guitar, vocals, piano; Danny Kirwan – guitar, vocals; John McVie – bass guitar; Mick Fleetwood – drums, percussion.
Mick Fleetwood himself sequenced and approved this release of a January 1969 concert at LA's Shrine Exposition Hall. Legendary soundman Stuart "Dinky" Dawson captured Mick, Peter Green, John McVie, Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan as they tore through a very blue set, including Great Balls of Fire, Blue Suede Shoes, If You'll Be My Baby, Rolling Man, and more! And thank you Mick for sequencing and approving the release of this truly outstanding live performance. For anyone who is a fan of the original Fleetwood Mac lineup "Shrine '69" is a must have to include in your music library. Recorded on January 25th 1969 in Los Angeles this is a musical document of a young band who only formed two years before are gaining notoriety as a superb blues band. This recording is pure out and out blues. Not the kind of music people today expect to hear from the Mac. But for anyone who loves blues music this is a joy to listen to. The album itself starts out a little bit off beat. The first couple of minutes consists of the guys tuning up before they are introduced to the crowd. After that however for the next 8 songs shows just how great this original lineup was. The band is tight and playing very well off of each other creating some memorable music. The record ends with the boys playing an interesting version of the rock and roll classic "Great Balls Of Fire". Not a bad version but it does seem to me to be a little out of place with the blues sound and feel of the rest of the album. How fortunate we though are it was being recorded so that those of us who couldn't be there in person can still enjoy listening to this recording. "Dinky" referred to in the title is Stuart "Dinky" Dawson the sound engineer who recorded and preserved this concert. Thirty years later he along with Mick Fleetwood would pick out and release some of those songs on this CD. This set really demonstrates just how good they were when in concert.
