CD2: Recorded Live At The Orpheum Theatre, Boston, MA On 14th February 1984.
What you get here are two vintage Aerosmith gigs the Boston Club gig of 1980 featuring the guitars of Jimmy Crespo and Brad Whitford, and the Orpheum Valentine’s Day gig from 1984 featuring Rick Dufay and again Jimmy Crespo (not Crespoc as the sleeve says!). Disc One is a gig recorded on December 3, 1980 at the Boston Club in Boston, MA. Tracks that you'll getting the most out of were "Rats In The Cellar", the rocking eleven-minute "Walkin' The Dog / Lord Of The Thighs", the ass-kicking "Three Mile Smile / Refer Head Woman", the chilling "Seasons Of Wither", "Big Ten Inch Record", the always good to hear "Walk This Way", the Beatles cover "Come Together" and tune we all know from The Yardbirds "Train Kept A Rollin'". If you need this concert on CD then this is the version to get. It did appear in 2016 as a CD called Boston Club 1980 on the Sonic Boom label, but the recording although reasonably good was on the tinny side and wasn’t as good as a tape recording of the radio broadcast this had of the gig. This version on the other hand pretty much nails it, a much fuller sound – it even features the pre gig radio interview with Steven Tyler. Historically it was backstage at this gig that the seeds of the Aerosmith reunion with Joe Perry and Brad Whitford were sewn….so an historical gig at any rate. Disc Two is a show recorded live on Valentine's Day, 1984 at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston. Tunes here you could get enough of were the unexpected opener "Back In The Saddle", the incredible "Three Mile Smile / Refer Head Woman / Lord Of The Thighs", a handful of Aerosmith staples "Sweet Emotion", "Dream On" followed by "Walk This Way" then the Kokomo Arnold-penned "Milk Cow Blues" and the awesome "Toys In The Attic". This show was one of the last with this line-up. After that, the original band members "started drifting back together". Perry had kicked his heroin habit, and although Tyler was still drinking, he was in somewhat better control of himself. Tyler had concluded that "Time heals all wounds. Joe is nothing without me, and I'm nothing without him." They faced problems, however, as the group had no current album or record deal. To jump start their career, the band decided on a tour of the United States, considering as many as 70 performances. In its final form, the tour consisted of 58 performances. Sound quality is great - for a live concert. Do keep in mind that both these recordings are without guitarist Joe Perry.
