2008 European-only compilation series named after the Star Club, the famed German club where the Beatles and other artists performed at in the '60s. This series contains hits, album tracks and more from some of the most famous acts in Rock history. This collection from the Blues legend J.J. Cale features 17 tracks including ''After Midnight'', ''Cocaine'', ''Magnolia'' and more. John Weldon Cale (not Jean Jacques as the script says) was a Tulsa-raised Oklahoma City musician known as J.J. Cale not to be confused with John Cale (The Velvet Underground). He has been quite influential as one of the promoters of a sound that mixed blues, country and to a lesser extent folk, jazz and rock'n'roll. It seems that he was modest and did not like stardom too much, in addition to not being excessively well-known among the general public, although he is highly valued among his professional colleagues. He has influenced, among others, Jerry García, Waylon Jennings, Lynyrd Skynyrd or Mark Knopfler. Although his best-known influence is that of Eric Clapton, who has vindicated his figure and covered and turned several of Cale's compositions into hits, facilitating the dissemination of his work. Among the best songs ''Call Me The Breeze'', ''Magnolia'', ''River Runs Deep'', ''If You're Ever In Oklahoma'', ''Cocaine'', ''Mona'', ''I'll Make Love To You Anytime'' and ''Love Has Been Gone''. In any case, it is difficult to justify that each CD only lasts around 50 minutes and they could have stretched the minute-length. JJ Cale is a good songwriter and guitarist, too bad he sings so utterly and disgustingly bad, which makes him drop a lot of points. He passed away in 2012 in California at the age of 74 from a heart attack.
