Zucchero Sugar Fornaciari- BLACK CAT- CD- 2016- Polydor/Universal Music Italia S.r.l.- 0602547858696- 400 grn
SPANISH VERSION.
BLACK CAT is the thirteenth studio album by the Italian blues rock singer-songwriter Zucchero Fornaciari, released on 29 April 2016. It's his first full-length studio album in six years, after Chocabeck in 2010, given that La Sesión Cubana (2012) was a mix of unreleased, previously released and cover songs. According to Zucchero, the album does not have the meaning of Western prejudice of black cat, yet Afro-American for "figure of speech, a greeting, a symbol of auspice". It is his "darkest album and rough ever in terms of sonority". The album included a new song "Streets Of Surrender (S.O.S)" with lyrics written by Bono, dedicated to the victims of November 2015 Paris attacks. Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits is a special guest and guitarist on the song, as well "Ci Si Arrende". The single "Voci" is sampled by "Ignorant Boy, Beautiful Girl" by Loney, Dear, while "Ten More Days" is a cover by Avicii. The album was released in three different versions - Italian, International (with English and Spanish version) and Japanese. The album's English version includes a collaboration with Elvis Costello on "Love Again" (originally "Turn The World Down"), a Spanish version collaboration with Alejandro Sanz on "Fatti Di Sogni" (renamed as "Hechos De Sueños"), while on Japanese version guitarist Tomoyasu Hotei played on "Ti Voglio Sposare". The Spanish Version has "Turn The World Down" instead of "Love Again" (the English Version of "Love Again" with completely different lyrics written by Elvis Costello) and "Hechos De Sueños", the Spanish version of "Fatti Di Sogni".

From the opening title track - with its ragtime piano, pounding drums and Zucchero's growl that will bring you to your feet whether you're in the concert arena, car or office cubicle - to the lilting lullaby of the ''Streets Of Surrender'' which bring tears to the eyes, Zucchero's BLACK CAT album is stellar. Alternating between English and Italian, Zucchero's singing style is powerful, gentle, raw, sweet, yearning and always visceral. Standouts are ''Ten More Days'', ''Hey Lord'' (which opens with a Negro prison camp chain-gang song from the bad ole days), and the haunting dreamlike operatic ''Terra Incognita''. This is a terrific album. Very different from his previous Chockabeck. What spending time in the American South will do to a guy! Very raw and emotional. Great studio production. Still rocking after all these years, the Italian Zucchero offers up his BLACK CAT album in a his distinctive Italian Blues style. A departure from his previous melodic Chockabeck album, BLACK CAT is a return to the edgier sound of his Oro, Incensa & Birra era. With an international band, strong vocals, and a deep appreciation for American southern culture and blues.
