In this country, Zucchero is more likely to be seen as an idol by a manageable group of fans, while the 67-year-old Italian is admired by the general public in his home country. After all, his 1989 album Oro Incenso E Birra (Gold, Incense And Beer) is one of the best-selling in Italian pop history! Throughout his career he has played with none other than Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker and B.B. King, - a list of prominent musicians that could be extended to impressive proportions and testifies to his supreme musical integrity and versatility. CHOCABECK is the eleventh studio album by Italian blues rock singer-songwriter Zucchero Fornaciari released on 3rd November 2010. The term CHOCABECK derives from the Emilian equivalent to Italian word ''schioccabecco'', meaning the sound of empty beak. Adelmo Fornaciari heard it from his father when was very young. His parents were farmers and when he was little they never speak about much money. Sunday cake was special to them. If there wasn't one and he asked about it, the answer was there was CHOCABECK instead. A play on words composed of clatter (CHOCA) and beak (BECK) meaning that a beak rattles because it is once again empty as there is no food. Anyone who wants to grasp this album in its entirety should know that Zucchero always prefers the values of the Mediterranean way of life to those of the Internet and Facebook. Which is why it was obvious that with CHOCABECK he had written a great, personal homage to bygone times. In eleven songs, Zucchero conjures up the image of everyday life in a farming village in the Italian provinces, referring to his own youth in Reggio Emilia-Romagna. For all those who understand Italian, the texts are a real treasure trove. Like his previous albums, it includes many notable collaborations. Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys sings backing vocals the title track. The lyrics of the opening song "Un Soffio Caldo" were co-written with renowned Italian songwriter Guccini, while "Oltre Le Rive" was written with Pacifico. The lyrics of the last song "God Bless The Child" were written by Roland Orzabal from the band Tears For Fears, Chaz Jankel, and Derek Hussey. The English versions of "Alla Fine" ("Too Late") and "Chocabeck" ("Spirit Together") were written by Iggy Pop. The lyrics of "Someone Else's Tears" were written by Bono, while Zucchero freely translated them in the counterpart "Il Suono Della Domenica". According to Zucchero's interpretation of English lyrics, when Bono wrote the song he was probably inspired by something painful he saw or felt. When he heard Zucchero's version before the U2's concert in Rome, Bono initially concentrated silently while it was played, and afterward cried. Zucchero considers the song to be the most representative of the album. Don't worry: CHOCABECK has become anything but a sentimental touching piece.
