THROUGH A CROOKED SUN is the second solo album from Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson. This album contains twelve studio tracks and features guest appearances by Warren Haynes, John Medeski, Karl Berger and Larry Campbell. THROUGH A CROOKED SUN was released on 11th October 2011 in US. The UK edition was released on 26th March 2012. The title of the album was taken from ''Look Through My Window'', a song from the EP Llama Blues. "Standing On The Surface Of The Sun" song featured a portion of an abandoned song found on a Black Crowes rehearsal tape for what would become the sessions for their 2001 album, Lions. "Station Man" was originally released by Fleetwood Mac on their album Kiln House in 1970. At independent record stores and at live performances, Robinson made available a four-song EP entitled Llama Blues. Intended as a companion to the full-length album, Llama Blues featured blues-based tracks similar in sound to the full LP's final track, "Fire Around''. The UK/European edition of THROUGH A CROOKED SUN included the songs as bonus tracks at the end of the album. Eagle Rock Entertainment re-released this album on 15th April 2016 with two bonus tracks.

THROUGH A CROOKED SUN carries the weight of not only an experienced musician, but also of an experienced man. Having gone through a few band hiatuses and a divorce, Robinson has come through to the other side. He has remarried and welcomed a son and also used the breaks from The Black Crowes to establish his individual artistry. In addition to his solo music work, Robinson has embarked on a career as a visual artist. It is plain to see that Rich Robinson is at home in the studio, as THROUGH A CROOKED SUN has a rich and deep texture, complete with strong songwriting and layers of technique. Socrates said that a life unexamined was not worth living, but sometimes life is going so well that you could forgive one for just going with the flow. But life will catch up with you in time, as it did for Rich Robinson. He had fame as the guitar player for The Black Crowes, fortune, a beautiful wife and home. He had it all. But in the blink of an eye, much of it was gone. How he managed to make it through with graciousness and his sense of self-intact is examined on his solo album, THROUGH A CROOKED SUN. This is decidedly a guitar players record, but THROUGH A CROOKED SUN relies on textures, all unveiled at a measured, mature pace. Robinson leans more toward rock with blues undertones. The guitar work and vocals are fantastic, but what really must be commended is the songwriting. Each track is worth listening to more than once. Robinson’s individual skill as a musician also noteworthy. His guitar playing is technically sound, and stands out well on solos. But, what is most impressive is his ability to take a simple melody on guitar and have it stand for instrumentals. His vocals are equally pleasant. His singing is smooth and a nice addition to the layering of percussion and guitar. It is not an exaggeration to call this a great album. Robinson has created something that is strong on so many levels. It is definitely worth a listen. His strength as a musician and songwriter are clear in this work. THROUGH A CROOKED SUN bears the mark of a man who has been through the ringer a few times and built himself back up. An overall enjoyable and impressive effort on Robinson’s part.
