The Black Crowes were finding their feet on the road having benefitted from supporting roles with Aerosmith and ZZ Top which although ill-fated, had given the band some decent exposure and a decent footing in a live sense. Lessons had been learned and the band had strengthened considerably as a live act by the time of their appearance at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles on 15th June 1991. At a time when their debut album Shake Your Money Maker was still proving a formidable first album, widely well received with generous airplay, The Crowes were going full throttle and in their sexy, rocking prime. This excellent broadcast recording preserves a great show performed by The Black Crowes at Los Angeles famous Greek Theatre, in Griffith Park, during their first headlining US tour in the summer of 1991. At the time of this recording, The Crowes were still promoting their debut and it is heavily featured in this set. The band also released a plethora of songs from the record as singles. The most successful of all, however, were their cover of Otis Redding's ''Hard To Handle'' and the brothers Robinson's own ''She Talks To Angels''. It was also largely due to the success of ''Hard To Handle'' that the host album was propelled into the Top Ten. The Black Crowes pay tribute to one of their most influential forebears and fellow southerners, The Allman Brothers Band, by virtue of a cover of Gregg Allman's ''Dreams'', a highlight of that band's 1969 debut album. The band also acknowledge their debt to other elder statesmen via the inclusion of The Beatles ''Get Back'' and bluesmen Mississippi Fred McDowell's ''Walk With Jesus'' and Bukka White's ''Shake Em On Down'' in a lengthy medley. The remaining song in performance, ''You're Wrong'', was never released by The Black Crowes as a studio recording.

For those that were fortunate to catch The Black Crowes during their lengthy tours in support of their first two albums, the on-stage magic from under the bright lights was rock 'n' roll euphoria and unforgettable. The captivating Crowes concert action was fleeting. Thankfully, there are numerous recordings from the early era of The Black Crowes that document the group's powerful presence when treading the boards. The Black Crowes 1991 live set from The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles showcases the group flyin' high, entertaining the sold-out venue with a freewheelin' party atmosphere as front-and-center Chris Robinson plays master of ceremonies. Broadcast via a radio simulcast, jam band sway and swagger illuminate the raucous set that opens with "Twice As Hard" and closes with a nine-minute cover of the towering "Dreams" as the group rolled their first major tour to a celebratory conclusion.
