One of the most memorable pop singles of 1971 was a nifty little rocker called “Get It On (Bang A Gong)” by T-Rex. Starting with a guitar riff, it soon built into a driving slice of rock and roll that blended gritty guitar with smooth strings. There were also nifty exotic touches like bongos and the wailing back-up vocals. Best of all was the voice that topped it all off: songwriter and lead singer Marc Bolan sang his poetic, image-strewn lyrics about mystical love in a warbling voice that was otherworldly and attractive all at once. “Get It On” became an international hit and paved the way for Marc Bolan’s career as the king of Glam Rock. Marc Bolan began cultivating a more glamorous image involving flashy clothes and makeup. As a result, the music press began to refer to his music as Glam Rock. Marc Bolan died in a car accident on 16th September 1977. Although more than forty years have passed since then, Bolan’s influence on rock and roll remains potent. Countless modern British bands have borrowed a page from Bolan’s book of rock and roll style. Meanwhile, the T-Rex fan club remains active, and Bolan’s classic recordings with T-Rex continue to be listened to by pop fans all over the world. Between 1994 and 1996, Edsel Records released eight full-length CDs of Marc Bolan’s previously unreleased home demos, alternate takes, unused and abandoned songs, and unfinished recordings. These CDs were deleted in 2001. On 25th October 2010, all eight discs were reissued in one Deluxe Casebound Book Package – but the majority of the print run was consumed in the Sony DADC warehouse fire of 2011.

В 2001 году было объявлено об окончании продаж этих релизов и cнятия их с производства (Out Of Print). 25 октября 2010 года все восемь дисков были переизданы в одном шикарном книжном сете с привязкой к регистру, HO... большая часть тиража погибла во время пожара на складе компании Sony DADC в 2011 году. Этот экземпляр был приобретён мною вовремя, до пожара. Больше такого ещё, поверьте мне, не будет …Н И К О Г Д А. Уже есть переиздание 2015 года, но в другом формате и, как говорится, это уже другая история.

Superbly packaged collection of Marc's unreleased work from 1972 to his untimely death in 1977. As have said, this collection ranges from very rough home demo's and work-throughs to some polished completed and unreleased studio tracks and is principally for dedicated fans. This unique limited edition collection features new artwork, including rarely seen photos and annotation by Mark Paytress, journalist and author of the definitive Bolan biography. You'll love the revised notes from Mark Paytrees which provides a great historical summary of some of the tracks. The eight CD's collect 184 Marc Bolan & T. Rex performances, recorded during the 1970s and compiled chronolically. Some, in a near-finished state, failed to make the final cut. Many others, ranging from spur-of-the-moment home demos to alternate studio takes and jams, were simply abandoned. All were unreleased at the time of Bolan's death in 1977. But, as long as people want a little glam in their rock, Marc Bolan’s work with T-Rex will continue to provide the perfect example of how it is done.
