Mountain LIVE IN NYC contains over 70 minutes of massive classic rock from one of the heaviest power trios of all time, featuring Leslie West and Corky Laing. This recording includes the hits ''Mississippi Queen'', and ''Theme From An Imaginary Western'' plus a cover of Joe Walsh's ''Rocky Mountain Way''. This dubious set of live Mountain recordings by Airline Records lists only the original 1969 lineup of the band - guitarist Leslie West, bassist Felix Pappalardi, drummer Corky Laing, and keyboard player Steve Knight. That said, the sound on this recording is contemporary and feels more like a solo West recording or the numerous reunion recordings made by West and Laing with pickup bass players. Whatever it is, it does not sound like the legendary band. The performance is alright, consisting mainly of the band's best-known hits such as "Mississippi Queen," "Nantucket Sleighride," and "Theme From An Imaginary Western," etc. But even here, these tracks and virtually everything else here has been issued on official bootlegs and other live recordings that are superior in performance. Heralded as one of rock’s greatest guitarists, Leslie West formed Mountain 1969 and continued on with band member Corky Laing through their career. In 1984 Mark Clarke, of Uriah Heep fame, joined the band on bass. The eight tracks on LIVE IN NYC were recorded in 1985 with this line-up at the legendary NYC nightclubs The Ritz and L’Amour.
