Live at ELECTRIC LADYLAND STUDIOS captures a performance promoting Leslie’s solo album The Great Fatsby. Featured on this recording is future Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones.
Been a Leslie West fan for what now seems like forever. Understand that most of his recordings since Mountain have been uneven and this one is no exception. Much of it is live pieced together from multiple live tapes which probably explains why there are four (count 'em) takes of "House Of The Rising Sun". Like HOTRS [House Of The Rising Sun] as much as the next guy, but it's pretty well beaten to death here. There are multiple takes of some of the other cuts, as well, some of which work and some of which don't. For the most part, Leslie's legendary tone is present. It's difficult to tell at times whether it's him playing or Mick Jones. Both are great players, of course, but I felt the addition of Jones simply muddied things up rather than enhancing the experience. In short, it's rough as you'd expect from something called "bootleg". There are some great moments and some not-so-great moments, again as you'd expect. This is pretty much something you'd only want to own if you wanted a complete Lesle West collection. The first 5 tracks come live from Electric Ladyland Studios in promotion of The Great Fatsby album. Musicians playing with Leslie include CORKY LAING, MICK JONES and DON KRETMAR. Other material comes from Detroit with the same line up, with a great mixture of material from MOUNTAIN and WEST, BRUCE and LAING performed at Halloween in 1975

P.S. LESLIE WEST (Leslie Weinstein). Musician. Born 22 October 1945 - Died 22 December 2020.
He had to cope with a variety of health problems over the years. In the mid-80s he was diagnosed with diabetes, and in 2011 diabetic complications forced him to have his right lower leg amputated. In the early 2000s he survived bladder cancer. Leslie West, who has died aged 75 following a cardiac arrest, could claim to be one of the creators of heavy metal. His band Mountain made a spectacular impact when they played their fourth gig at the original Woodstock festival in August 1969, alongside the likes of the Who, Jimi Hendrix and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
