Baker Gurvitz Army were an English rock group. Their self-titled debut album featured a blend of hard rock laced with Ginger Baker's jazz- and Afrobeat-influenced drumming. The Baker Gurvitz Army came into existence when former Gun and Three Man Army members Paul and Adrian Gurvitz joined forces with legendary drummer Ginger Baker in 1974. This live recording was recorded in Milan on March 23rd, 1976 during the tour to promote what would turn out to be the band's final studio album Hearts On Fire. There are also two tracks from Elysian Encounter and two from the band's self titled debut. Interestingly enough at this point in the band's career, they elected to include two Cream songs in the set and both ''Sunshine Of Your Love'' and ''White Room'' are also included here. This live recording is one of several releases based on the private archives of legendary drummer Ginger Baker, which finally see the light of day. Although not intended for a formal release and suffering from "bootleg" sound quality problems, the musical importance of this material is so significant, that it overshadows any technicalities and is essentially a Godsend. This album brings a live recording of the group Baker Gurvitz Army, which he founded with ex-Gun and Three Men Army members guitarist Paul Gurvitz and bassist Adrian Gurvitz and ex-Sharks member vocalist Steve Parsons (aka. Snips). Baker Gurvitz Army recorded only three albums during its short life-span, and any additional material by the band is invaluable. The material is drown from the band's studio albums and was recorded during the band's final tour. Definitely worth investigating, provided you're not squeamish about sound quality.

Baker Gurvitz Army was a short-lived English rock band. During the years 1974-1976, they released a total of three albums, but due to failure in the United States and personal disagreements, the group broke up. Paul Gurvitz and Adrian Gurvitz, former members of The Gun and Three Man Army, joined forces in 1974 with drummer Ginger Baker (ex-Cream and Ginger Baker's Air Force). Ginger Baker hasn't been doing well since his own band Ginger Baker's Air Force broke up. The Gurvitz brothers also sought new avenues after the breakup of their previously quite successful group The Gun. When Cream broke up in 1968, Ginger Baker was invited to join the supergroup Blind Faith, which formed the very next year. However, this venture was not successful, and after its breakup, Ginger decided to put together his own extraordinary group, Ginger Baker's Air Force, in 1970. This large group was supplemented by many of his friends, favorite musicians such as Graham Bond, Phil Seaman, Denny Laine and Steve Winwood. The group recorded two live albums, but came to the conclusion that the whole project was becoming too expensive. In 1974, Ginger Baker wanted to use his talents in the group Baker Gurvitz Army. Their self-titled debut album was a blend of hard rock and Baker's flawless drumming. The group released two more albums, Elysian Encounter and Hearts Of Fire. After the breakup of the group in the year of the release of the last album, Ginger briefly led a group called Energy, later he was active in the groups Atomic Rooster and Hawkwind.
