REBEL ON THE RUN is an album from Moonstone Project was released on 2nd June 2009. Ask Moonstone Project coordinator and guitarist Matt Filippini what year this is and he might say 1974. REBEL ON THE RUN bleeds from the artery of classic blues, sometimes with a psychedelic vibe, of 1970's hard rock. Filippini marries this style with fine song craftsmanship, expert musicianship and a warm, soulful production. One listen to the Tommy Bolin piece, ''From Another Time'', will convince you. Mr. Filippini is helped along the way by some notable musicians who know this music well including James Christian, Glenn Hughes, Ken Hensley, and Ian Paice among others. Christian supplies all the vocals except for Hughes singing his own composition ''Closer Than You Think'' - which is pure blues Hughes. Other notable accomplishments include heavy blues of ''Sinner Sinner'', the funky and psychedelic ''Moonster Booster'', and the totally bell-bottom hip, ''Hey Mama''. Moonstone Project's deep immersion into old school blues hard rock on REBEL ON THE RUN will probably not find an audience among our current generation. Unless, of course, they had the common sense to listen to their parent's vinyl collection. However, REBEL ON THE RUN displays the best of that era in a fresh and uncompromising form.

Moonstone Project mainman, Matt Filippini, released his first album, Time To Take A Stand, back in 2006, highlighting his love of seventies classic rock. It emerged again in 2008 under a different title and with new artwork, as Hidden In Time, along with three bonus tracks. It was a good album, no doubt about it, albeit one that seemed a bit higgledy-piggledy, living up to its ''project'' status. After 2008' Hidden In Time, the project strikes while the iron is hot by offering its new opus REBEL ON THE RUN, this time distributed by the label Blistering Records. Always very well accompanied, even if the number of "special guests" has decreased a little compared to Hidden In Time, Matt Filippini and his Moonstone Project bring together some of the jewels of hard rock, as evidenced by the respective presences of Graham Bonnet, Glenn Hughes, James Christian, Ian Paice and Ken Hensley. These rock legends know each other quite well and seem the ideal team. The super group offers seventies-style hard rock. Even if it is James Christian who takes the lion's share behind the microphone, his flawless performance adapts very well to this style of updated hard rock with polished and melodic contours. Matt Filippini's guitar playing is quite sober, to the point of sometimes being stolen by his bassist whose grooving style is reminiscent of that of Glenn Hugues, in fact. The interpretation remains above all suspicion and some juicy instrumental passages make your ears prick up and your feet tap. REBEL ON THE RUN includes fabulous performance from House Of Lords vocalist James Christian and this is some of his best work. He's even brought the missus along to sing backing vocals, so fans of Robin Beck can take pleasure here as well. It's an excellent offering, one that fans of funky, seventies hard rock should definitely check out.
