He’s been called the “The Voice of Rock”. His career has spanned more than four decades, having played with Deep Purple, Trapeze and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, in addition to establishing a highly regarded solo identity. Ladies and gentlemen: GLENN HUGHES. In summer 2006 Glenn Hughes did a acoustic show in Sydney, Australia with JJ Marsh on guitar and Lachlan Doley on keyboard. The performance was captured and was released on CD and DVD in 2007. Glenn Hughes' CD titled LIVE IN AUSTRALIA was released on 25th September 2007. For his first solo show in Australia, on the 17th June 2006 at famed Sydney venue The Basement. Hughes brought his unique brand of rock-funk to a new audience. Indeed, this is one of Britain’s greatest rock singers in acoustic mode, intimate and live, and his soulful, distinctive voice is in top-notch condition throughout. The songs range across his career, taking in material from his solo albums like 1977’s Play Me Out (‘'I Found A Woman'’), to 2005’s Soul Mover (the rousing title track, ‘'Last Mistake’') and his newest release Music For The Divine (a passionate cover of the Moody Blues’ classic ‘'Nights In White Satin'’, ‘'This Is How I Feel'’). On top of that, Hughes returns to his legendary Deep Purple days for ‘'This Time Around'’, ‘'You Keep On Moving'’, an astonishing rendition of ‘'Mistreated'’ and a duet with celebrated Aussie Rock frontman Jimmy Barnes on ‘'Gettin’ Tighter'’.

Some people always alleged that Glenn Hughes is the best voice of Deep Purple. And they stck to this claim. And they truely surprised that his voice is still brilliant after all those years. On this record he little overact his singing sometimes. A bit too theatrical in parts, as if he wanted to show he is the Yngwie Malmsteen of classic hard rock vocals, which he is actually, and he proves it quite impressively - and penetratingly. Surely a matter of taste. Nevertheless you'll like this release, the playlist includes all of his goodies you like most. No wet panties-but a sensible hint of moisture,and thats enough for a contend smile. You never heard anything similar before. So where does that leave yuor with this album? This is the sound of Glenn having fun in a relaxed environment. He's made some predictable choices for acoustic numbers and numbers that are so great they would work with any half decent arrangement. There are newer songs. However, there are some audio atrocities here. He crucifies "Whiter Shade Of Pale" with vocal histrionics contestant totally unsuited to the song. You'll expected a twin vocal on his performance of "Getting tighter" with Jimmy Barnes. Sadly it's basically a hysterical Barnes vocal performance. So Glenn does have a great acoustic album in him. For example, would be if he'd go and listen to the Tommy Bolin acoustic demos spread over many of the archive releases. Maybe write a few new one's of his own and will attempt an acoustic arrangement... Mentioning the best for last , the relatively obscure "I Found A Woman" from the Play Me Out album is inspired and exactly the way to do great acoustic. Then you might have a killer album. You'll like LIVE IN AUSTRALIA a lot anyway, thanks to Glenn's brilliant vocal fiddling and also because it's a kind of unique and very varied acoustic album.
