- Eagle Rock Entertainment Ltd./Eagle Rock North- 826992800523- 400 grn
All songs contained in this package are alternate takes or demos recorded between 1992 and 1998. HOUSE ON FIRE: The Jeff Healey Band Demos & Rarities is a collection of previously-unreleased songs from the Jeff Healey Band. Most of the tracks come from 1992-1995, when they were recording Feel This and Cover To Cover. Included are several tracks written by the Jeff Healey Band, including ''All The Way'', the instrumental ''Bish Bang Boof'' and the title track, in addition to covers of Bob Seger's ''We've Got Tonight'' and Bruce Springsteen's ''Adam Raised A Cain''. This album further showcases the talents of the Jeff Healey Band. There have been plenty of posthumous Jeff Healey releases, but 2013's HOUSE ON FIRE: Demos And Rarities excavates unheard material from the prime of the Jeff Healey Band: the years of 1992 and 1998, when Healey was signed to a major label and regularly made the album rock charts. Healey's biggest hits arrived right at the turn of the '90s ["Angel Eyes," his only Billboard Top 10 or Top 40 hit, appeared in 1989] and by the time Feel This appeared in 1992, his chart success started to diminish but he was still kicking out solid modern blues-rock. Often, the material that was cut from Feel This and its all-covers 1995 sequel Cover To Cover was slightly looser and wilder than what made the finished album, finding Healey indulging his love for swing jazz, rocking a little harder, and choosing more interesting covers than the barroom standards that littered Cover To Cover (take note that "You Go Your Way, I'll Go Mine" is not a Dylan cover). Some of this still drifts into somewhat generic major-label blues-rock, where the neon gloss of the production undermines Healey's chops, but nothing here is embarrassing, it's all of piece with his Arista records, and it's a worthwhile odds and sods for the dedicated.
PERSONNEL: Jeff Healey - vocals, guitar; Tom Stephen - drums; Joe Rockman - bass, background vocals.
There is no question this is a great CD, looking into the left overs from Cover to Cover sessions and Feel This. One of these songs is on the import verson of feel this along with 2 others not on this CD. It is a shame it took Jeff Healey death to issue somany recordings Live and recording session stuff. But better than never. Alternative versons and demo versons. Finally why have they not issued the song "On The Road Again" from the Road House movie. In the opening of the movie Swazye puts a cassette in his mercedes and for about minute and half and then the song fades away when he arrives at the double duce. A talented musician who sadly left this earth way too soon, but we will always have his music. Thus is the case here with this disc of songs which either never made it to "official release" or early workouts for songs that evolved into listenable finished songs. If you dug Jeff Healey, his singing, guitar playing as well as his band then this disc is worth adding to your collection. This posthumous collection shows that even amongst Jeff Healey's "2nds", he could stand with the Cream of the Blues Crop. Just think what we'd be enjoying if he were still with us... (even if he split his time between Blues and Jazz). Put the CD on and crank it up and rock on ...
