Following the huge success of Nirvana's Nevermind album in 1991, grunge exploded internationally, and in its slipstream came Pearl Jam, whose debut album Ten was released a month before Nevermind, and who were undoubtedly players in their own right. With a trio of multi-Platinum, chart-topping albums - Ten was followed by Vs. (1993), and Vitology (1994) - and a string of hit singles to boot, the group quickly became one of the genre's driving forces, permanently leaving their mark on American rock music. Unsurprisingly, as a result of their record sales, accolades and relentless touring, Pearl Jam garnered considerable media attention, and this manifested itself in a host of live television appearances across the first half of the '90s. This compilation collates the very best of PJ's TV performances from this era and in so doing demonstrates how this now legendary collective emerged almost fully formed. This set features cuts from two separate episodes of Saturday Night Live (in 1992 and again in 1994), songs performed at the MTV Video Music Awards in '92 & '93 - including a sterling version of Neil Young's ''Rockin' In The Free World'' at the latter - plus a number of other such appearances. The CD is completed with a couple of lengthy media interviews, one of which also features the marvellous and aforementioned Mr. Young waxing lyrical about his proteges - the results across the disc speak for themselves. Providing in completion a superb live album from Pearl Jam's first era, the strength of the material and passion displayed here assure this CD will become a fan favourite and an essential addition to every decent Pearl Jam collection out there. Pearl Jam is Alternative Rock (Modern Rock) band from Seattle, Washington (USA). Inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Formed from the ashes of Jeff and Stone's previous band Mother Love Bone and the Temple Of The Dog tribute project (featuring Eddie Vedder on a number of tracks), Pearl Jam were catapulted straight to international superstardom with the release of the album Ten and the single ''Alive''. One of the Seattle grunge scene a-list bands, their star faded considerably when that scene fell out of fashion. This appears to have suited the band fine as they've continued to record increasingly experimental music with their line-up almost intact (they have had a number of drummers over the years - Dave Krusen, David Abbruzzese, Jack Irons and, now, the drummer who played on their original demos and with Temple Of The Dog - Matt Cameron, who also plays drums for Soundgarden. In 1995, they played as the backing band on Neil Young's "Mirror Ball" album and the subsequent tour.
