There are said to be people who don't like concert recordings, which is strange since for thousands of years music could only be experienced live. But even for them, the publication of the charity campaign celebrated in 2012 is strongly recommended. This spectacular live document is a feast for the eyes and ears, capturing the second edition of the SUNFLOWER SUPERJAM in what is undoubtedly one of London's most prestigious venues: The Royal Albert Hall. Before the event was open to all rock fans, The Jam was a private charity event organized by Ian Paice (Deep Purple's drummer) and his wife Jacky Paice - the biggest rock stars gathered here to perform classics together to raise money for various charitable causes. Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice and his wife Jacky brought together a select group of musicians whose names make classic rock fans sit up. On September 16, 2012, Ian Paice himself was in charge of bringing together a series of top artists, among whom were The Temperance Movement, Mark King of the band Level 42, Brian Auger, Bruce Dickinson, Alice Cooper, Brian May, John Paul Jones, Steve Balsamo and Ian Paice himself, who performed some of the rock classics from both their respective bands and other bands. Now that concert is released in CD and DVD formats for the enjoyment of all fans. The audio CD contains fourteen songs, while on the DVD you can see the entire concert, including some extras. As usually happens with this type of meetings of artists of different stripes, the results are usually uneven. Come on, more than the quality of the performances, the value of this type of thing is given by the collaborations that occur on stage. The show couldn't have been more powerful, thanks to the contribution of Mark King of Level 42, delivering groovy renditions of two of his greatest hits with a legend of the Hammond organ: Brian Auger, who also plays on almost the whole show. Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson, lending his explosive voice for Thin Lizzy's ''Emerald'' and The Who's ''Behind Blue Eyes'', Alice Cooper playing with Ian Paice and Brian May his classics ''Elected'' and ''School's Out'', or Bruce Dickinson, Brian May, John Paul Jones and Ian Paice teaming up for a rendition of Deep Purple's ''Black Night''. British blues rockers The Temperance Movement, now a respected reality of UK rock music, made their debut in front of a large audience, while Steve Balsamo paid tribute to Jon Lord with ''Pictured Within'', anticipating the great homage the SUNFLOWER SUPERJAM. Just when the Royal Albert Hall audience thought it simply couldn't get any better, the final ''Smoke On The Water'' literally caused an explosion of joy and celebration - A feeling that is present on each song of this exciting recording. Although perhaps the most inspired version of all is that of “Since You've Been Gone”, the Rainbow song performed by Brian May and Kerry Ellisian Paice. You can't tell from any of the songs that they've been around for thirty or forty years, or that a large portion of the warm and carefree concertgoers are almost as old as rock music itself. The result is a concert that you would have loved to have been at. Because let's be honest: Brian May, Bruce Dickinson, Brian Auger, John Paul Jones and Ian Paice intoning ''Black Night'' together - you don't hear something like that every day. While the CD features fourteen exciting live tracks, the DVD additionally to the full show contains further bonus tracks by Brian May & Kerry Ellis, The Temperance Movement, Alfie Boe & Uli Jon Roth.
