Back to The Hoochie Coochie Men. The Hoochie Coochie Men were a renowned Australian blues group composed of bass player Bob Daisley, guitarist and singer Tim Gaze and drummer Rob Grosser. The recurring member of the band was former Deep Purple keyboard player Jon Lord, who is best known for his trademark keyboard sound on the Hammond organ - playing loud, distorted and fusing rock with classical or baroque. The band was active between 2001 and 2007 and released two studio albums, including DANGER. WHITE MEN DANCING. The album features guest performances by Deep Purple lead singer Ian Gillan, Cold Chisel lead vocalist Jimmy Barnes and the cabaret performer Jeff Duff. The Hoochie Coochie Men also recorded several covers. It was good having already heard the live offering from a few years before but honestly you never expected it to be as good as this. Right from the very first note of Jon Lord’s swirling Hammond organ you get top quality blues played by some highly experienced musicians at the top of their game. The blues album by The Hoochie Coochie Men and Jon Lord titled DANGER. WHITE MEN DANCING was released on 1st October 2007 on Edel Records. Version CD with a DVD LIVE AT THE BASEMENT was available in 2009.

Since leaving Deep Purple John Lord has spent the majority of his time working on his classical projects. The man has talent in those areas, but his Hammond organ is what brought him fame with Deep Purple and now with the Hoochie Coochie Men he's back with a blues/rock band. The sound of the guitars, bass, drums, vocals and of course keyboards all come through in a phenomenal sonic performance. The songs themselves all come off with the touch of musical expertise and genius that you would expect from people who have been in the business some 30 or 40 years. Daisley, Gaze and Grosser began writing the material at Rob’s studio Disgracelands at the end of 2005, and continued writing, arranging and recording throughout 2006, with Grosser as engineer, Daisley as producer and mixing by Steve Scanlon in Melbourne. Jon Lord’s keyboard parts were recorded at Olympic Studios, Barnes, with engineer Darren Schneider from the U.S. Is the second Hoochie Coochie Men album that Jon Lord has featured on. It is just perfect blues with a great vocal, great guitar, meaningful lyrics that are easy to identify with ...“everybody wants the truth but everybody wants to tell a lie” ... “everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die” ... and of course that classic Jon Lord organ. To summarise then this is a great blues album, it’s a great blues rock album and it is probably the best rock style organ playing Jon Lord has come up with since Burn album. Seriously, it is that good. You simply cannot afford not to hear this album. You can easily watch this band many times, even without Hammondness. No wonder they were chosen. If you like Blues, Deep Purple, Jon Lord, the Hammond sound, in any combination, you will not be disappointed. You can get taster's of the CD and the DVD. But if you have a nice big screen, a good audio system connected, just get the pizza and beer out, sit back on the sofa, switch off the lights and you are off...
