This DVD/CD is amazing. Jon Lord has always been one of the best rock keyboards players. Up there with Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Ken Hensley, Tony Banks and many more to name. You've seen him with the great Deep Purple many times, in concerts and/or DVDs but these performance is his best ever on keyboards. Playing the blues, a music style dominated by guitars, the way is meant to be. On top of that, he is back with a first class hard rock blues band. Compared to another blues bands or musicians The Hoochie Coochie Men is up there with these bands. This DVD blow you away. Within the great songs played here is very important to mention "You Need Love" (Led Zeppelin's ''Whole Lotta Love'') and the Deep Purple song "When A Blindman Cry" from which even Ian Gillan will be proud and and he will cry when he listens to the way this song is played and sung. There are not enough words to say how good this DVD is. Thanks Jon Lord and The Hoochie Coochie Men.

Away from his day-job with leaden metallurgists Deep Purple, Jon Lord has always enjoyed a lively alternate musicianly time-line. This The Hoochie Coochie Men has nothing to do with Long John Baldry’s band of the same name, they’re an Australian Blues group Jon hooked up with during injury-time taken out from his 2003 Concerto For Group And Orchestra appearance schedule at the Sydney Opera House. A bonus CD includes previously unreleased first The Hoochie Coochie Men studio album. In some ways this extracurricular indulgence represents a comfortable easing back into the sixties default setting or even before. Jon Lord amusingly recounts how he played “Green Onions” as part of his first ever professional engagement, as part of a group called Redd Bludd filling in for a no-show Manfred Mann, his smooth Hammond now feeding classy prog improvisations to add artistry to its craftsmanship. The blues flows like it’s second nature, with a samba-paced “Strange Brew”, and a mean straight-razored take on Johnny Winter’s “Dallas”. There’s Howlin Wolf, Elmore James and Muddy Waters songs, but they focus around a run of three stand-out Willie Dixon covers, stealing “You Need Love” back from Led Zep’s creative kleptomania. For Deep Purple metallurgists there’s even a 'singles edit' of their “When A Blind-Man Cries” to round off this accomplished and highly enjoyable performance. To summarise then this is a great blues album, it’s a great blues rock album and it is probably the best rock style organ playing Jon Lord has come up with since Burn album. Seriously, it is that good. You simply cannot afford not to hear this album. You can easily watch this band many times, even without Hammondness. No wonder they were chosen. If you like Blues, Deep Purple, Jon Lord, the Hammond sound, in any combination, you will not be disappointed. If you have a nice big screen, a good audio system connected, just get the pizza and beer out, sit back on the sofa, switch off the lights and you are off...
