Rainbow- POT OF GOLD- CD- 2002- Spectrum Music/Universal Music Group Company- 731454465120- 400 grn
POT OF GOLD is a budget-priced compilation album by the British hard rock band Rainbow, released on 5th February 2002. After five years we get this time from another label the next compilation. There is no outstanding release from this type from the previous and on the end of the rainbow we find no pot of gold but thirteen tracks right summarizes the activity of the band and as well as on the previous album. Like most classic rock bands, Rainbow has been the subject of countless compilations over the years, as 2002 saw yet another entry in the group's discography, the thirteenth import set POT OF GOLD. Touching upon all eras of the band (the mystical, prog metal Ronnie James Dio phase, as well as the more radio-friendly/arena rock Graham Bonnet and Joe Lynn Turner periods), POT OF GOLD includes most of Rainbow's highlights, but there are a few glaring omissions that prevent it from being a definitive career overview. Sure, such early classics as the epic "Stargazer" and "Kill The King" are included, as well as the latter-day radio faves "Since You Been Gone" and "Stone Cold," but where are such expected selections as "Man On The Silver Mountain," "Starstruck," "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll," "I Surrender," and "Street Of Dreams"? Not here. All in all, POT OF GOLD is not a bad compilation, but with so many other Rainbow releases already on the market (including 1997's superior The Very Best Of Rainbow), this release is average compilation. Seems to be more of a promotional album than a ''best of''. It covers the years '75 to '83 with tracks from each of their studio albums. There's only one each from Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and Rainbow Rising, which is OK since those are worth buying, and a few too many from the later albums. The quality of the compositions definitely takes a turn for the worse from about 1979. It's like they ran out of ideas. It's a useful introduction to Rainbow, though. This dramatic compilation album from popular 1970s metal band Rainbow, a project of Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's, features thirteen tracks and an all-star cast of musicians that includes Ronnie James Dio, Tony Carey, Joe Lynn Turner, and Cozy Powell. This version is digitally remastered.
