PURE McCARTNEY is the fourth compilation album by Paul McCartney. The album was released on 10th June 2016. The album features tracks from all of his official studio albums with the exception of Снова в СССР, Flowers In The Dirt, Run Devil Run and Driving Rain. Two CD versions of the album have been released, a two disc CD edition of 39 tracks, and deluxe digital edition with four disc CD of 67 tracks. Why do so many consumers concentrate on what a release isn't rather than what it is? This set is not intended to be a greatest hits collection nor a complete career overview. Rather it is a very interesting and entertaining compilation of what McCartney personally feels are his finest tracks, which makes for an intriguing listening experience preferable to an album of songs the radio has been playing to death for decades. Are some of your personal favorites missing? Yes, but these are McCartney's favorites, not your or anyone else's, and that's the point of this anthology. Complaints from fans are immaterial. All in all, a collection for serious fans, not casual listeners. Touted as a personally curated compilation by Paul McCartney, PURE McCARTNEY is the first McCartney compilation since 2001's Wingspan: Hits And History. A full 15 years separated this and Wingspan: Hits And History, longer than the span between that double-disc set and 1987's All The Best. In both its standard two-CD and deluxe four-disc incarnations, PURE McCARTNEY attempts to rectify this, going so far as to include "Hope For The Future", his song for the 2014 video game Destiny. A fair chunk of the compilation rests upon songs heard on Wings Greatest, All The Best, and Wingspan: Hits And History so the interesting things lie in the margins, or in the music made since 1984. The standard edition contains three selections from the Flaming Pie, and a couple of cuts from both Chaos And Creation In The Backyard and Memory Almost Full, but it bypasses Flowers In The Dirt entirely. But their absence only underscores one fact: McCartney made more great music than what can fit on even a four-disc box. PURE McCARTNEY gets closer to capturing the full range of his career than any of his previous compilations, but it's still only an introduction to one of the richest bodies of work in pop music.
