- Atlantic Recording Corp./Friday Music, Inc.- 829421106227- 500 grn
THE LAW is the first and only album from the Paul Rodgers led group The Law. Album was released on 19th March 1991. It was remastered and reissued with bonus track by Friday Music in 2008. The Law was formed when Paul Rodgers met Kenney Jones in a nightclub in London and decided to put a band together. The two teamed up with different supporting musicians in order to give Rodgers freedom to pursue whatever music style he felt like. Rodgers relied heavily on outside writers to write songs for the album, but the only chart topper of the album, "Laying Down The Law", was written by Paul Rodgers himself. The album features notable appearances by David Gilmour, Bryan Adams and Chris Rea. The song "Stone" was previously recorded by Chris Rea for his album Shamrock Diaries, and Rea plays guitar on this version. The track "Miss You In A Heartbeat", written by Phil Collen, was later recorded by Collen's band Def Leppard for their Adrenalize album. Although a short venture, it's been an enduring chapter in the career of both superstars. This long over due re-issue is now a Deluxe Edition...remastered and includes the very rare and unreleased gem ''That's When You Fall In Love''. If you missed this the first time around, catch up with THE LAW today. Remastered impeccably. Includes new liner notes, rare photos and ultra rare promo and radio single artwork.

The Law is definately Paul Rodgers most little know project it is also quite possibly his most misunderstood. The idea behind The Law was almost certainly for Rodgers to get the hunger back and start singing again. He had spent pretty much half a decade in silence after the collapse of the supergoup The Firm. And Paul Rodgers, hardly needed to worry about where the next pay cheque was coming from. Atlantic Records though held the contract of the man regarded even then as the finest rock singer Britain had ever produced and were keen to get him back on track. Of course these days he would just have recorded a tribute blues or soul album, but that was not the fashion at the start of the nineties. Kenney Jones is hardly essential and yet he is listed as the only other band member. In effect giving him joint billing with Rodgers. THE LAW didn't exactly set the world on fire when it was released. However, as it was the first product from Paul Rodgers for sometime it was greeted reasonably well by hardcore Rodgers fans. The band actually played one gig... well it wasn't actually a gig... it was a special twenty minute guest slot at about five in the afternoon at a festival in Milton Keynes in England headlined by ZZ Top and Bryan Adams. It was only when The Law finished with ''All Right Now'' that people began to take notice and finally realised who they were. Unsurprisingly the album and the group sank without a trace and the project was quickly aborted. There is a bootleg unreleased tracks but this is only out takes and rejected tracks from this album. Curiously one of them is ''Too Much Is Not Enough'' which ended up on the Deep Purple album Slaves And Masters. Fortunately for Rodgers his Atlantic contract was fulfilled and upon signing to the Victor label he recorded his Grammy nominated Muddy Water Blues album which placed him back where he belongs at the top of his profession.
