- Warner Bros. Records, Inc./Rhino Entertainment Company/Wounded Bird Records- 664140196629- 400 grn
The best of all the Alexis Korner anthologies, boasting unreleased tapes and a lot of interesting one-off recordings from the various nooks and crannies of his career. CD pressing of this 1972 album from the British Blues great. Alexis Korner, along with John Mayall, could be called the "father of British Blues". Even though he himself is not necessarily a well known name, he helped launch the careers of many top Rock and Blues stars from the 1960s. BOOTLEG HIM! is a twenty track collection of odds & ends from his early career. Musicians appearing with Alexis Korner on this album include Robert Plant, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Charlie Watts, Graham Bond, Paul Rodgers, Andy Fraser, the list goes on and on. One of the groundbreaking early 1970s blues/rock releases in Europe. The godfather of European blues went into his tape archive and came back with some great early recordings 1961-1967. But this album also contains early '70s sessions where he's backed by a big bunch of supporters.

From Blues Incorporated came musicians who would go on to form Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Free, Animals, among others. Therefore, by the beginning of the 70s, Alexis Korner already had the status of the "Father" of British Blues and Blues-Rock. Wanting to capitalize on this, his record label, Rak, led by Peter Grant and Mickie Most, proposed that he record an album bringing together these guys with whom he had already played. Korner refused to do so but delivered a number of tapes, some unreleased, with these partnerships. That's when this collection came about, which isn't really a collection. Then the duo Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce from Cream appear, there is also Charlie Watts from The Stones and members of Free. Robert Plant also appears, as before being called by Jimmy Page to form Led Zeppelin, he participated in the album A New Generation Of Blues. This is one of those albums that has survived being robbed, going broke, going nuts, going up the river, and going to party after party after party. This album will your formal introduction to the Blues in all its delights. There have been better Alexis Korner compilations, to be sure, but this one is special, this one is magic. This one will become a part of you. Sometimes the role that an album plays in someone's life says a lot more than any analysis of playing, line-up, composition, or genre.
