LIVE AT RED ROCKS is a live album and video of hard-blues-rock group Bad Company. It was released exclusively at Wal-Mart on 23rd September 2017 and 11th January 2018 in other areas. On Sunday, May 15th 2016, Bad Company hit the stage at Red Rocks Amphitheatre for a stop on their fittingly named One Hell Of A Night Tour. The CD/DVD set captures a show during the band’s U.S. Tour with Joe Walsh at the breathtaking Red Rocks Amphitheatre close to Denver in Morrison, Colorado. Joe Walsh opened the night backed by a ten-piece band, telling the audience, “We’ll get you sweaty and Bad Company will finish you off”. While co-founder and guitarist Mick Ralphs is credited on the recording, he was no longer part of the band’s lineup due to health issues. Rich Robinson of The Black Crows stood in for him. Also on guitar was touring musician Howard Leese, who has played with The Paul Rodgers Band and Bad Company since 2008. The band’s current lineup also includes Simon Kirke on drums, another co-founding member who played with Paul Rodgers in Free, and Todd Ronning on bass. Paul Rodgers’ signature voice sounded as strong as ever as he, alongside Simon Kirke, delivered one striking and powerful performance that got the entire crowd dancing in the aisles and singing out loud.
PERSONNEL: Paul Rodgers - lead vocals, guitar, piano; Simon Kirke - drums; Howard Leese - guitars, mandolin, vocals; Rich Robinson - guitars, vocals; Todd Ronning - bass, vocals.
They opened their set with “Feel Like Making Love”, “Ready for Love”, and “Shooting Star” all while a cold rain began to fall over the crowd. The setlist moved away from the hard rock hits to a stunning all-strings version of “Seagull”. ''Seagull'' is one of the acoustic tracks of the set. During this live performance, Simon Kirke joined Rodgers, Leese and Robinson on acoustic guitar and threw in a nice solo. As always, frontman Paul Rodgers leads the formation which, in the absence of the historic guitarist Mick Ralphs, sees both the faithful sideman Howard Lees and the former Black Crowes Rich Robinson performing on the six electric strings, while on the drums sits as always Simon Kirke. Rodgers is still vocally in splendid form, Robinson is a fan of the group and knows their riffs and melodies by heart. This is why the set of fourteen songs goes off wonderfully, with excellent revivals of classics, sparkling examples of classic, melodic and immortal hard rock. There are a few very precious few bands who are worthy of praise nowadays. After 30, 40, and now heading into their 50th Anniversary Bad Company (1973) is absolutely one of this bands. A good visual and audio documentary of Band Company in its current form. As entertainers, Bad Company are on top of their game as good as any from the Classic Rock Era. Paul Rodgers still has one of the best voices in Rock And Roll. How many decades will Kirke continue to be Rock Steady? The veteran timekeeper continues to perform like a fine Swiss Made Watch. All of the classic singles are hear with Rodgers welcoming you to 'his' ''Rock And Roll Fantasy''. He lives for the music and it shows. This is Bad Company today - and a nice addition to any Bad Company or Rock And Roll collection.
