Bad Company- LIVE AT WEMBLEY- CD- 2010/2011- Eagle Rock Entertainment Ltd.- 826992020624- 400 grn
LIVE AT WEMBLEY is a live album by the rock band Bad Company released on 18th July 2010 in UK and 28th June 2011 in US. It was recorded on 11th April 2010 from a concert at the Wembley Arena in London, England. The six albums released by the original Bad Company between 1974 and 1982 arguably defined arena rock and, by extension, classic rock. The hard-hitting, no-frills, soulful sound created by vocalist Paul Rodgers, who also contributed piano and guitar occasionally, lead guitarist Mick Ralphs, bass guitarist Boz Burrell, and drummer Simon Kirke lives on through eternal radio airplay. Rodgers, Ralphs, Burrell, and Kirke reunited in 1999 to remind the public about the original band's legacy and downplay, if not bury, the Rodgers-less Bad Company lineups that experienced various levels of success from the late '80s through much of the 1990s. Boz Burrell died in 2006, but Rodgers, Ralphs, and Kirke joined forces for a few short tours since then to keep the original Bad Company's musical flag flying proudly. Released in 2011, LIVE AT WEMBLEY captures a concert at London's Wembley Arena on 11th April 2010. Two members of Rodgers' solo band, guitarist Howard Leese and bass guitarist Lynn Sorensen, have supplemented the core surviving trio. The band turns in a strong performance in its home country, often with extended intros and jams. Classics are expected during a concert, of course, but any live performance by a band of Bad Company's stature is fleshed out with album cuts, minor hits, and overlooked gems revered by die-hard fans. Therefore, "Honey Child", the hit cover of the Coasters' "Young Blood", "Gone, Gone, Gone", "Electric Land", "Simple Man" and "Deal With The Preacher" truly complete the package, while the underappreciated "Electric Land" from 1982's otherwise lackluster Rough Diamonds is a major treat. Due to CD playing time limitations, "Burnin' Sky" is omitted, but it is included on the LIVE AT WEMBLEY DVD.

After many years apart, Bad Company return with all their chemistry seemingly fully intact on the live album LIVE AT WEMBLEY. A scruffy, strong-voiced Paul Rodgers leading the surviving original trio through powerful, unvarnished readings of big hits, as well as lesser know fan-favorite album cuts. Although Bad Company reportedly initially reunited in 2008 to perform one show in order to legally protect their name, they must have gotten along pretty well, because they regrouped again a year later for a series of tour dates across the world. The band rips right into the opening ''Can't Get Enough'' as if in mid-set. Rodgers proves to be an expert at getting the crowd to sing the chorus for him, even though it's clear he's got more than enough pipes to handle it himself. Guitarist Mick Ralphs is also in fine form throughout. The duo take center stage together for a lovely acoustic reading of ''Seagull'', and later on everybody lines up at the front of the stage for some nice instrumental teamwork on ''Rock And Roll Fantasy''. This album reminds you that Bad Company has a wide collection of great songs, and clearly are still capable of performing them all very well. Great stuff, all around. LIVE AT WEMBLEY captures Bad Company after their reunion in top form. The British rock band played their great songs with full energy and enthusiasm. LIVE AT WEMBLEY definitely is a Bad Company live show not to miss.
