STORIES TOLD & UNTOLD is the twelfth studio album by the English band Bad Company. The album was released on 15th October 1996, through East West. It was their last album with lead vocalist Robert Hart. This album features newly arranged re-recordings of Bad Company's greatest hits in a more Americana inspired style, along with new songs. It stands as their most recent studio album to date. The title of STORIES TOLD & UNTOLD refers to the fact that this contains some old songs, and some new - but these aren't old recordings, mind you. Instead, it's the 1996 lineup of Bad Company, featuring Robert Hart on vocals, who also contributes several originals to the lineup as well. Those originals naturally aren't as good as the hits, but they're reliable enough, and the band sounds pretty good, even if the production winds up being a bit too slick. Certainly this is one for the diehards, the ones that do want to hear the new band playing the old songs, not the ones that would get angry about that very thing. And while it's not one they'll put on a lot, it's not bad as far as latter-day platters from arena rock veterans go.

If you're looking for the classic Bad Company line-up, you won't find it on STORIES TOLD & UNTOLD. The compilation collects tracks from the '90s version of Bad Company - new songs, unreleased tracks, and new versions of old faves. While some of the remakes don't compare to the originals, the band sounds quite inspired. With original Bad Company guitarist Mick Ralphs and drummer Simon Kirke holding down the fort, the pair teamed once again with vocalist Robert Hart, guitarist David "Bucket" Colwell and bassist Rick Wills, for the recording of STORIES TOLD & UNTOLD. The fourteen song effort is split between new material and reworked Bad Company classics. Without the soulful pipes of Paul Rodgers leading the way, tracks such as "Ready For Love", "Silver, Blue And Gold", and "Weep No More", never stood a chance of living-up to the studio versions from the legendary '70s. However, Robert Hart does a credible job fronting the realigned Bad Company, while a host of guests, including Richie Sambora and Vince Gill, assisted throughout the collection of tracks. Of the new numbers on offer from STORIES TOLD & UNTOLD, album opener "One On One", featuring cool slide work from Ralphs, sets the pace, as the remainder of the "untold" tracks are aired with a mellow tone. STORIES TOLD & UNTOLD is a nice album by one of rocks greatest bands to emerge on to scene in the early 70's. If you are a true fan of Bad Company it is a nice album to add to the collection.
