DANGEROUS AGE is the eighth studio album by hard rock band Bad Company. The album was released on 15th August 1988. It was their second album with Brian Howe as lead vocalist and first with Steve Price credited as bass guitarist. It was produced and largely co-written by Terry Thomas. It helped bring the group back into the spotlight. Bad Company launched a major comeback in 1988 with DANGEROUS AGE. It wasn't the original lineup, lacking Paul Rodgers, but Mick Ralphs was still on board, and he could still turn out some pretty solid numbers, like the title track and "One Night." The album suffers from a slick, late-'80s production, but compared to some of the albums that came later, DANGEROUS AGE was satisfying. This is the best of the Brian Howe era of Bad Company. Ok, nobody can match the voice that Paul Rodgers has. There's a reason why his nickname is "The Voice". You can't compare Brian Howe to Paul. They have completely different vocal styles. Most original era "purists" forget that, so putting aside the fact that Paul isn't on here, going to rate the album based on the music. The first Howe era album had flopped and was a huge disappointment. Luckily, by 1988, the Brian Howe era of Bad Company had found its niche. They brought back some of the blues influences that had made the original era, and added a bit more soul, which is always a good thing. By doing so, they made great changes that transformed into having hit songs. Even now this album that has stood the test of time, and it sounds the best out of the four studio albums they released now, as it did then.

Out of all of Bad Company's generic and formulaic '80s albums, this one is probably the best. It has the most personality to it out of their albums, and it still retains some of the bluesy nature that marked the band's sound in the 1970s. Brian Howe has a great set of pipes. The guitarist, Mick Ralphs, definitely does more for this album than anyone does, with his work really salvaging songs like "Shake It Up," which is brought to life by the bluesy guitar licks that he inserts in the song, and "One Night" and "No Smoke Without A Fire", which have nice and heavy moments, yet simultaneously catchy riffs running through the choruses supported heavily by solid bass lines from Steve Price. Everything else just feels like generic, radio-friendly from a band that used to be rather engaging. As this album is, though, it is a more enjoyable and memorable listen than any of Bad Company's other albums in a similar vein. DANGEROUS AGE is a good hard rock album who revigorated little bit the name of the band in that period. Here are no more lots of keybords in bands sound, they got rid of most of the parts only small amounts of keyboards left in and returned the band to a more guitar-driven sound as they were in the '70's. Even Brian Howe is no Paul Rodgers, they are very distict voices. The typical sound a fort that period hard rock here and there make from this album a succesful one in Howe era, well nothing realy groundbreaking here but well played and well composed. Also another thing is that the sales were much more bigger then before, the best selling album of the band in the '80s for sure with Gold status. A pleasent release to your ears, good driving hard rock, very same to arena rock of that period, but in the end is fair album non the less. Really recommended.
