10 FROM 6 is a compilation album released by English supergroup Bad Company in December 1985 on Atlantic Records label. All the songs on the album were previously released on Swan Song Records, a record label begun by Led Zeppelin in 1974. 10 FROM 6 means ten songs from six albums - namely, Bad Company's first six records, all of which were big hits on album-oriented rock radio. This brief yet very effective collection gathers all of the group's best-known songs in one place. Although most album-oriented hard rock acts are better heard on the original albums, Bad Company's records tended to be more uneven than those of their peers, making 10 FROM 6 a valuable collection for the group's casual fans, who will want to bypass the cluttered studio albums and just get the cream of the crop. This compilation is a nice recap of their most popular songs from their first six albums, although there are actually none from Burnin' Sky, so maybe it should be renamed TEN FROM FIVE? Can't really argue with the tracks included, and when played from start to finish, this album does give you a very good overview of the band's early work.

... Six gun sound is our claim to fame... Paul Rodgers was one of the finest vocalists of the classic rock era and still is a fantastic blues shouter. Mick Ralphs knew how to pen a catchy rock tune, he was after all one of the creative forces behind early Mott The Hoople and was responsible for many of their subtler country-rock influence. Boz Burrell and Simon Kirke were a capable and unfussy rhythm section. The thing is, despite the combined pedigrees of the quartet, Bad Company were never particularly consistent, despite being aimed squarely at the US FM radio-waves. This resulted in the band sounding like a particularly sanitised version of Free, which given that that was the very band that Rodgers and Kirke had just dissolved wasn't particularly surprising. Following their self titled debut album, it quickly became obvious that Bad Company were capable of the occasional top-draw rock single, but over the duration of an album, they just weren't playing to their strengths anymore. If you're curious, pick up Bad Company and 10 FROM 6, and for the majority of rock fans, that's all you'll really need. For all their flaws, the individual members of Bad Company just had too much combined talent to be a total waste of time. Early singles are simple, direct and punchy, making them legendary classic rock radio fodder. This are by far the best tracks from their respective albums, but it's notable, as well as absolutely the right call, that only the band's self titled debut and by far their best album is represented by anything more than two songs. While there are more extensive Bad Company compilations on the market, 10 FROM 6 condenses the original line-up's output down to their ten most vital tracks. The ubiquity and simple brilliance might give the impression that Bad Company were one of the elite supergroups of the 70s, however in truth they never did anything particularly unique enough to separate out from the pack and really, this slender compilation is all the Bad Company that most of us will ever need... Bottle of whiskey, sleepin' tablets by his head...
