RUN WITH THE PACK is the third studio album by English supergroup Bad Company. It was released on 30th January 1976, by Island Records. The album was recorded in France using The Rolling Stones Mobile Truck in September 1975. It was the only original Bad Company album without artwork from Hipgnosis, instead featuring artwork from Kosh. The album spawned rock radio classics "Silver, Blue & Gold", "Live For The Music", and the title track. "Silver, Blue & Gold" was never released as a single, but is one of the band's most popular compositions. "Do Right By Your Woman" is an acoustic number, with some twelve-string work and that the harmonies are excellent, at times reminiscent of CSNY. ''Run With The Pack'' title track as Bad Company's greatest song, its energy just simply defines what Bad Company was all about. The album was remastered in 1994. The vinyl album had a shiny, silver cover, but CD versions feature a simple, light grey cover. The original album cover also came as a gatefold, with a photo of the band inside, sitting around a couch near a television tuned in to a Bugs Bunny cartoon. It was revealed in the notes in the booklet accompanying the 2CD Expanded Edition, that originally the TV screen showed a still of "I Love Lucy" but it was not possible to get approval for its use on the album cover, so it was changed. RUN WITH THE PACK still has that smooth blues vibe and nice blues rock guitar by Mick Ralphs but the material is not up to their previous stuff. Can you go wrong with Paul Rodgers voice... smooth like honey!! Very listenable, classic rock. It is a worthy addition to any Bad Company collection and a good listen when in the proper mood.

Ehhhh..... You know something's wrong when the riff of the lead track consists of one chord repeated over and over again for three and a half minutes. And you know something's terribly wrong when aforementioned lead track turns out to be one of the best songs on the record. ''Run With The Pack'', "Silver, Blue & Gold" and "Simple Man" are wonderful, emotionally-charged mature rock anthems. It was no surprise when Straight Shooter, Bad Company's second album, came out sounding like a carbon copy of their first, Bad Company. After all, the first one had topped the charts. And with Straight Shooter also selling well, it was no surprise they wouldn't mess with the formula on this, their third album. But it was becoming increasingly clear that it was a formula, and an unusually restrictive one. They tried adding strings on the title track, which is one of the rewrites of the song "Bad Company," but that was just a pretension, not a new direction. With Bad Company slogging through the stadiums of the world and momentum on their side, RUN WITH THE PACK shot up the charts, too, but it didn't get quite as high or stay quite as long as its predecessors, mostly because of the lack of really memorable material. "Honey Child," one of the "Can't Get Enough" rewrites that was released as a single, didn't make the Top 40, an ominous sign the band did not heed. This album is really a toss-up of the great, the meh, and the lacking of songs from Bad Company's discography. Some songs here do absolutely nothing and sound like regular dad-rock. But, honestly, you could do with just listening it. For today's listeners, well, you only really need one Bad Company album to get the idea, and why not just get the first one? Or, for a more complete view, the greatest-hits album 10 From 6. Then, if you really love what you hear, this record is more of the same.
