BAD COMPANY is the debut studio album by Bad Company, a 1970s hard rock English supergroup. The album was recorded in November 1973, and it was the first album released on Led Zeppelin's Swan Song Records label on 24th May 1974. From the wreckage of Free came Bad Company. If anything, Bad Company excise the excesses of Free - there are no winding jams and very little added color by way of pianos or even air in the production. Appropriately enough given their name, there's a sense of slow, churning menace to Bad Company. It's hard rock painted in stark black & white: cranked guitars mirrored by a deliberate wallop from the rhythm section, a rock & roll so loud and basic it wound up not aging much at all even though it pretty much defined mid-'70s album rock. Originally considered a pet project of Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant and his new label, Swan Song, it took no time for Bad Company to find their own niche in the rock pantheon. The very first album on the label, Bad Company, shot straight to the top of the album charts and has since eclipsed five times platinum, becoming one of the top fifty best selling albums of the seventies along the way. The group was founded in 1973 when guitarist Mick Ralphs left Mott The Hoople and joined two former members of the rock band Free, drummer Simon Kirke and vocalist Paul Rodgers. When Grant agreed to manage the band, he brought in King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell to complete the quartet. Rodgers’ fascination with the Jeff Bridges film Bad Company as well as a passage from a book of Victorian morals, gave the band its name. Produced independently, BAD COMPANY was recorded at the centuries old workhouse, Headley Grange, with a mobile studio in late 1973. This was the same location where much of Led Zeppelin’s third and fourth albums were recorded.

Digitally re-mastered two CD Deluxe Edition of the 1974 debut album by the British rockers. Disc One contains the newly re-mastered audio of the original album while. Disc Two features previously unreleased alternate takes and mixes and new mixes based on recently unearthed original multi-track tapes. Having unearthed the original multi-track tapes and discovered previously unreleased tracks, takes, and mixes the band has remastered their first album to create new Deluxe Editions. With Paul Rodgers and Bad Company back in the limelight due to the hugely successful reunion tours and Rodgers association with Queen it is surely time this classic album was given the full Anniversary treatment. There are at least two great B sides. ''Little Miss Fortune'' which was a mainstay of the early live set and ''Easy On My Soul'' a lengthier more jam like workout of the Free track. As well as a version of ''Superstar Woman'' later recorded by Rodgers on his solo album Cut Loose which are already available on The Original Bad Company Anthology. But there surely must be radio, live and out take performances around somewhere. Bad Company providing for Swan Song with a #1 album before Led Zeppelin themselves did. At one point BAD COMPANY was certified as the 46th best selling album of the seventies with over 5 million copies sold. The album was included in the book 1001 ALBUMS YOU MUST HEAR BEFORE YOU DIE. Proof if it was needed that sometimes Bad Company is indeed good company.
